State of Downtown Columbus Year-End 2016
Capital Crossroads & Discovery Special Improvement Districts have prepared a comprehensive report regarding the economic development activity in Downtown Columbus through the end of 2016. Among the highlights:
  • Downtown's residential population grew to an estimated 8,100 residents
  • The apartment occupancy rate is 97%
  • The City of Columbus' most expensive home sale & record-setting price was the 12th floor of Parks Edge Condominiums at $4.4 million
  • $734 million is under construction currently in Downtown
  • $116 million was completed in 2016, including the highly anticipated LeVeque Tower apartments (LVQ Apartments)
  • Downtown hosted a record 10-million visitors in 2016

Set in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown Columbus, Pearl Market offers a unique opportunity for people downtown to purchase farm-fresh produce, baked goods, specialty foods and drinks, health and beauty products, cards and small gift items, arts and crafts, home d�cor, fashion and entertainment items.

Pearl Market seeks to develop a merchant mix that reflects the rich cultural diversity of Central Ohio while encouraging customers to purchase fresh, locally grown produce and other goods. The 2017 Pearl Market will operate every Tuesday and Friday from Friday, June 2 through Friday, October 13, 2017. Columbus State Self-Defense Training Program
Classes are offered on Mondays, 5 - 6:30 p.m. and Thursdays, 8 - 9:30 a.m.
This empowering self-defense training for both men and women combines fitness training and martial arts, and is taught by experienced instructors. You can take one or two classes, or progress through the levels of this free training, learning valuable techniques to keep yourself and others safe. Level One (Grey Shirt) is appropriate for participants with no prior self-defense training. After 20 Grey Shirt classes, you can move on to Level Two (Yellow Shirt). After 20 Yellow Shirt classes, you can move onto to Level Three (Orange Shirt). And after 20 Orange Shirt classes, you can move onto Level Four (Green Shirt). Columbus City Council passed legislation requiring that road race promoters apply for a permit at least 30 days prior to an event and to reach out to affected neighborhoods along the race course. This section will post updates about race applications that have been filed for downtown to allow for comment. Enhanced COTA Service to Come
COTA has announced that they plan to launch their enhanced service beginning May 1. Through community input and transit expertise, COTA has redesigned its entire system, to modernize it to meet current needs, which have changed greatly since COTA's inception in 1974. The Transit System Redesign will result in more efficient, more direct and more frequent connections to jobs and other destinations throughout central Ohio.

Passport Applications and Photos at the Franklin County Clerk of Courts
Passport applications and photos can be completed at the Franklin County Clerk of Courts "ONE STOP PASSPORT SHOP" on any non-holiday weekday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (no appointment needed).  Go to the Clerk's General Division, located on the first floor of the new courthouse at 345 S. High St. You can have your photo taken for a small fee (payable by cash or check). The completed passport application (along with a separate check payable to the US Department of State) is then processed. The entire transaction can be completed in under 20 minutes. For more information and access to the US Department of State's passport application and requirements, visit http://Clerk.FranklinCountyOhio.gov and scroll down to "Online Resources" block; then click on the PASSPORT photo.

The centerpiece of Winter Park returns with an NHL-sized ice rink that is open for public skating, hockey and a variety of community events. The outdoor rink is equipped with bleacher seating for approximately 250 people, a skate rental tent and four heated locker rooms. Public skating sessions are $5 each (skate rental included). A special heated viewing tent is available to watch the skating. Kiddos can also enjoy the Mad River Mountain Kids' Slide. More details are available here.

X-Treme Pupaphobia, the exhibit title, comes from the artist's long-term love for the elusive death/rebirth of puppetry art. Think Outside the Brick: The Creative Art of Lego

Think Outside the Brick is a collaborative project with the Ohio LEGO� User's Group (OhioLUG). An enormous model of Columbus features the return of familiar landmarks and imaginative creations. Fresh A.I.R. Gallery (Artists in Recovery) is presenting Breathe & Bloom, an exhibition by artist Gloria Molyneux. Gloria felt Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) before she knew its name. She experienced mild secondary PTSD growing up from repeatedly hearing her closest loved ones tell stories of war, escape, refuge, and survival. However, she couldn't fully understand until she experienced chaos and tragedy firsthand. Breathe & Bloom is Molyneux's first public visualization of how her brain worked through trauma toward recovery and healing. http://southeastinc.com

Curated by Richard Fletcher, associate professor in the Department of Classics at The Ohio State University, this is the fourth curated collaboration between the Riffe Gallery and Ohio Art League (OAL). The selected artworks represent a range of media from painting, sculpture, photography, video, and site-specific assemblages.
Fletcher has dedicated his recent research and teaching practices to how ancient literature, philosophy, and mythology can be reactivated through contemporary artistic practices. Fletcher asked artists how their experiences shape their artwork, and like the handbooks by ancient philosophers, how their artwork communicates life lessons. Organized by CMA in partnership with the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the exhibition provides a comprehensive examination of Sharrer's place in American art and reveals the full scope of her significant achievements. Exhibition: Shakespeare in Prague: Imagining the Bard in the Heart of Europe

Ryan Mrozowski (b. in Pennsylvania, 1981) constructs paintings by means of duplicating, repeating, and inverting the most commonplace of imagery (oranges, polka dots, birds, flowers, grass) in endless variations. Mrozowski observes his subject matter with a playful and satirical distance, isolating the elements of landscape, still life, or narrative situations.
