Again this summer, you can head to the Discovery District sand volleyball court, dubbed Discovery Beach, for some fun in the sun. Located across the street from Hills Market and Grass Skirt Tiki Room, the sand volleyball court is available for free play or to reserve for a special outing. Topiary Park Movie Series Announced for Summer 2016
Discovery Special Improvement District and partners bring the From Book to Film series back to Topiary Park this summer. Featuring four films based on popular books, adults and kids alike will love a night under the stars in the downtown version of the old-school drive-in. Movie-goers can enjoy a free movie, free popcorn, a food truck, activities and a venue like no other. The movies will begin at dusk on June 25 (The Lorax), July 30 (Paddington), August 27 (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and September 24 (The Hunger Games). Thanks to partners: Discovery SID, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Discovery Civic Association, Friends of Topiary Park, State Auto Insurance Companies, Motorists Mutual Insurance Company and Gateway Film Center.

Community Festival Road Closures
The Community Festival (ComFest) will take place Friday, June 24, through Sunday, June 26, in and around Goodale Park. Motorists should be alert for increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic in the area.

Paving the Way encourages ComFest guests to consider using COTA or carpooling to beat the traffic and help reduce congestion. COTA has routes which serve ComFest including the #21 Night Owl which runs Friday and Saturday nights from 7 p.m. to as late as 2:45 a.m. (the following morning). Additional buses will be added to routes serving ComFest. Call 614.228.1776 or visit COTA online for details.

YayBikes! and Comfest provide a bicycle parking corral at the northwest corner of Goodale Park. And, CoGo Bike Share has a station on E. Lincoln St. immediately east of N. High St., about a block from Goodale Park.

Motorists should watch for posted parking restrictions before parking.

W. Long St. Lane Restrictions
Be alert for lane restrictions on W. Long St. between N. Front and N. High streets due to electric utility work, weather permitting. Work hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. At least two lanes of W. Long Street will be maintained on weekdays. This work is expected to continue through Thursday, June 30, weather permitting.

Short St. Reopens to Two-Way Traffic
Short St., which was closed at Liberty St. for a storm drainage project, will temporarily reopen to two-way traffic. To detour around work at the intersection of Short St. and Liberty St., motorists and cyclists will be directed to take Short St. south to a temporary roadway to the alley next to the Columbus Brewing Company back to Short St. Also, coming from this alley, traffic can take the temporary roadway to northbound Short St. Traffic on Short St. south of Liberty St. can turn right to access eastbound Liberty St. Access to Lang Stone will temporarily be from Sycamore St. to Short St. Sycamore St. will not be open to through traffic on Short St., only local access to Lang Stone. This pattern will be in place through mid-July, weather permitting.

Lane Restrictions on W. Broad St.
Expect lane restrictions and watch for crews on W. Broad St. between Marconi Blvd. and McDowell St. for the Scioto Peninsula roadway improvements. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during the work. Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians may wish to consider W. Rich St., W. Town St., W. Long St. or W. Spring St. as alternates, especially during rush hours.

Pedestrians should be alert for sidewalk detours during construction and cross the street when directed to do so. Pedestrians, like motorists and bicyclists, are required by law to follow work-zone detour signs.

Project improvements include: roadway reconstruction; storm water and water line upgrades; pedestrian safety improvements, including a crosswalk with a pedestrian hybrid beacon near COSI and the Veterans Memorial; green elements such as a bio-retention basins; streetscape improvements including a planted median and brickwork; bicycle lanes; new 11-foot wide sidewalks; street trees and landscaping; and traffic signal and lighting upgrades

Work is expected to be complete by this fall, weather permitting.

Road Improvements on Third and Fourth Streets
Road resurfacing is nearly complete on Third and Fourth Streets in downtown. Please pay close attention to updated lane lines and new bike lanes.

PlaceMakes: Cherry Sundays
June 26, July 10 and July 24, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
PlaceMakes: has temporarily transformed W. Cherry St. (between Front St. and High St.) into a 'pedestrian-preferred' street, right in the downtown neighborhood. While an important function of a street is to facilitate travel, PlaceMakes: aims to help people begin to see streets in their entirety; not just as a function of transporting, but the vital role streets play in the social and economic life of communities. W. Cherry St. is a destination offering people a place to meet, relax and enjoy the downtown environment while taking in the activities of the street.

Check out the eye-catching painted street, greenery, seating, and various design elements by local artists. Plan to attend CHERRY SUNDAYS-a recurring interactive marketplace featuring food (stop by and grab a coffee and pancake balls); and local vendors (candles, jewelry, flower headbands); workshops (build your own vertical garden or learn about composting); and more. Their Little Library is always free and available - be sure to see the amazing cherry-inspired artwork featured on the Little Library. And their tandem bike will be available for short rides.


Columbus Metropolitan Library Participates in Global eBook Club
Columbus Metropolitan Library is participating in The Big Library Read, a digital book club set on a global scale to introduce and connect as many passionate readers as possible to eBooks. The program allows owners of digital eReader devices - and holders of CML library cards - to instantly download a specific eBook or eAudiobook with no waits or holds. Greater Columbus Convention Center Construction Update
As construction continues, here is some information to help you navigate the area:
Ballrooms: The Terrace Ballroom renovation will continue until September 2016. 

COTA Bus Stop: Due to construction, the bus stop at High and Spruce Streets was moved to the south side of Ohio Center Drive. The new AirConnect shuttle to and from Port Columbus International Airport has established a stop at the GCCC. 

E-Pod Meeting Rooms: The E-160-162 and E-170-172 meeting rooms are scheduled to be renovated by June 14, 2016. The E150-151 rooms are scheduled to be completed by September 2016. 

Exhibit Halls: Mass demolition on the back portion of Exhibit Hall F is complete.

Exhibit Hall Show Offices: Construction for upper-level show offices in Exhibit Halls C and D will occur from August to December 2016. 

PlaceMakes: PARKT

COTA Zoo Bus
COTA is making transportation between Downtown and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium a lot easier again this summer. For trips to the Zoo or Zoombezi Bay, take COTA's Zoo Bus now through September 5 on weekends and holidays. Board at the Statehouse Downtown or leave your car at the Griggs Dam Park & Ride, and avoid paying for parking and gas. COTA is only $2 each way. Ask your bus operator for a transfer/coupon and receive half-off regular Zoo admission or $4 off Zoombezi Bay admission for the day of your ride.

Join the Make Your Miles Matter Commuter Challenge
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA), car2go and CoGo are teaming together to challenge commuters during the month of June. The first ever Make Your Miles Matter Commuter Challenge encourages commuters to vanpool, carpool, bus, walk or bike to work, social events, and to run errands from now through June 30. When using an alternate mode of transportation, commuters simply log their miles to www.morpc.org/commuterchallenge which makes them eligible to win daily and grand prizes. 

Since the challenge began June 1, more than 525 registrants have logged 4,022 alternative transportation trips, collectively reducing 34,710 vehicle miles traveled on Central Ohio roadways and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 27,293 pounds. Keep logging your commutes for chances to win great prizes, including the three grand prizes. You'll be helping to raise awareness about the benefits of choosing sustainable commuting. The exhibit won't be here for long, and it's something that you (and the kiddos) must see. Forty-eight artists from across Ohio, including several recipients of Individual Artists Awards from the Ohio Arts Council, have joined forces to create a survey of the best of the contemporary art scene in our state today. Each artist transforms a unique "canvas" into a spectacular artwork. For the next two Saturdays, your CMA admission includes free art activities in the Open Studio. Creators of all ages will imagine and build their own egg artwork, inspired by the Art 360 exhibit. This will come in real handy because after you see these creations, you will want to let your own imagination loose. On the first and third Sunday of each month, Art 360 artists will accompany tour docents where they will discuss the work as well as the challenges and surprises that they encountered using an ostrich egg as a "canvas." Downtown record store Spoonful Records has partnered with the CMA to identify and acquire record covers for Spin Art, which features memorable examples of vinyl record album cover designs. Album covers show how the crossover between music and visual arts can inspire creative innovation. Selected record covers define the visual identity of a musician, record label or musical genre. Also included are album covers that are the result of close collaboration between graphic designer and musician. Many of the records on display exemplify a fruitful exchange between music and visual cultures. The exhibition showcases albums by musicians including Pink Floyd, Funkadelic, Run the Jewels, and Sonic Youth, among others, as well as designs by Andy Warhol, Roger Dean, Winston Smith, Gerhard Richter` and others.

Columbus Museum of Art, in partnership with the Barnes Foundation, presents an exhibition featuring one of the greatest artists of all time, Pablo Picasso. Inspired by CMA's Picasso Still Life with Compote and Glass, 1914-15, the show features some 50 works drawn from major museums and private collections from around the world. The exhibition explores Pablo Picasso's work during the tumultuous years of the First World War. At this time, Picasso began experimenting with both cubist and classical modes in his art. Important canvases by Picasso's contemporaries, including Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, and Diego Rivera, will also be presented.
