Dedication & Lot Party for "Coney Island" Bold Booth
June 7, 2 - 4 p.m.
Parking Lot of the Westin Columbus Hotel
Coney Island is the first of five dynamic Bold Booth parking lot attendant booths that will transform the mundane into public art. The Bold Booths Project combines art and function in one-of-a-kind installations unique to downtown Columbus. The project is an extension of Finding Time: ColumbusPublicArt2012. The innovative parking attendant booths not only provide shelter for attendants, but will spark community dialogue about the role design plays in expanding the social capital within the city. Coney Island was designed by Blostein/Overly Architects, and the name is homage to the legendary Southern Theatre. Refreshments will be provided by The Westin Columbus and Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant. Bring your family and friends.

COTA Downtown Employer Pass Pilot Program
COTA, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission and Capital Crossroads SID are participating in a pilot downtown employer pass program. The program allows a pilot group of employers offer downtown employees unlimited access to COTA services for a 19-month period. Select employees at Bricker & Eckler LLP; Huntington Bank's 37 W. Broad St. office; Nationwide; Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur LLP; and State Auto's 175 S. Third St. office will be eligible to participate. As office vacancy rates drop and surface parking lots have been replaced with developments, the demand for spaces in parking garages and lots has increased. This program is designed to test the ability of a transit incentive to eliminate parking shortages.

Special Events

Fabric of Survival: The Artwork of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz
Now through June 14
Columbus Museum of Art
At first glance, the colorful needlework collages of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz seem to depict bucolic scenes of the Polish countryside. On closer examination, they tell a horrific tale of survival. Mrs. Krinitz and her younger sister Mania, were the only members of their family, and among the few Jews in their Polish village, to survive the Holocaust. At the age of fifteen, Esther refused the Nazi order for town's Jews to report to a nearby railroad station for relocation. She and her sister separated from the family and never saw them again. In 1977, at the age of fifty, Esther began creating works of fabric art to depict her stories of survival. Over a twenty-year period, she created a collection of thirty-six needlework pictures that tell her remarkable story in great detail with bold design and exquisite composition. http://www.columbusmuseum.org

Exhibit: Nicole Gordon: Reoriented and Eleanor Spiess-Ferris: See No Evil
Now through July 11
Angela Meleca Gallery
Nicole Gordon's large-scale oil paintings and gouache studies reflect surrendering to a loss of personal space. Using natural environments to stand as metaphor for physical, emotional, or spiritual personal space, each timeless setting has been infiltrated by pop-culture imagery. The heightened colors and out-of-place objects create absurd, and sometimes disturbing, stage-like scenes that become an alternate reality. What may at first seem like a disturbance to the serenity ultimately animates the setting and breathes new life into the space. Eleanor Spiess-Ferris creates paintings influenced by her time spent in the wild and untamed orchard behind her childhood home. Surrounded by old apple trees, plum trees, weeds and wild grasses, this feral plot of land seeps into the settings of her paintings. http://angelamelecagallery.com
