Monday's National Championship Game has brought a national focus on the Ohio State Buckeyes and their story of resilience, collaboration and relentless effort. A social media campaign has been launched to showcase the innovation and growth of Columbus, the breadth of our business landscape and the spirits of those who live here. All-Star Winter Park Set for NHL All-Star Weekend

The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced plans for Columbus Blue Jackets All-Star Winter Park to be held in McFerson Commons, across the street from Nationwide Arena. The park will feature an outdoor ice rink, a massive three-lane snow slide down Nationwide Blvd. and will serve as a hub for outdoor entertainment for fans of all ages before and during the All-Star Weekend, January 24 - 25. The ice rink will be open January 16 - 25, featuring public skating, youth hockey, private events and other programming. The snow slide will be open January 22 - 25. Exhibit: threeASFOUR TOPOGRAPHIC

CCAD Canzani Center Gallery

The avant-garde fashion label threeASFOUR (made up of designers Adi Gil, Angela Donhauser and Gabriel Asfour) has worked with Bjork, Yoko Ono, Kate Spade and the Gap. TOPOGRAPHIC will feature their new collection, which reveals the varied visual aspects of nature and its inherent geometries through a topographic approach rendered in shades of white. The exhibition will also include threeASFOUR's recent experimentation in new technologies that provide an immersive virtual fashion show experience. Influenced by fashion, textile design and astronomy, the sculptor and installation artist Heather McGill deploys intensive patterning and strong, space-activating color across all her work. As a resident of suburban Detroit, she has absorbed the city's spirit of Fordist innovation and technological promise and channels that influence as she applies the media of industry to the mantras of modernity. http://www.ccad.edu

Almond Zigmund's work sharpens out perceptions of space while exploring the nature of opposition. Combining crisp geometry, vivid color and intricate patterns, her drawings, sculptures and installations engage the eye and the body at once, offering generous amounts of visual stimulation while also inducing visceral reactions to the virtual and actual spaces she creates. http://www.ccad.edu   

 

Ninth Annual Ohio Online Visual Artists Registry

Columbus Main Library, Carnegie Gallery

OOVAR is an online database that showcases the work of more than 1,200 artists from around the world. The show features original works by Ohio artists and is a joint project of the Ohio Arts Council's Individual Artist Program, the Arts & Media Division of Columbus Metropolitan Library and the Friends of the Library. A $1,000 prize will be awarded to the winner of Juror's Choice and a $500 prize will be awarded to the People's Choice winner, who will be selected by visitors to the exhibit and library customers through Saturday, January 3. 

 

Think Outside the Brick

Columbus Museum of Art

CMA's Center for Creativity hosts this exhibit which celebrates the creative potential of LEGO building blocks. The exhibition features the return of the Central Ohio Lego Train Club's popular collaborative model of the city of Columbus with familiar landmarks and imaginative additions. Fresh A.I.R. Gallery

Brown's show features vibrant colors and various textures derived on mixed media surfaces, highlighting his desire to connect with the family of mankind. DRIVEbys: An exhibition of unconventional architecture for the most conventional thing

Huntington Center, Ground Floor Lobby

Now through the first week of February 2015

Five Columbus architects developed designs for Bold Booths, an original and innovative proposal for installation of attendant booths at downtown surface parking lots, as part of Finding Time: ColumbusPublicArt2012. Drawings, models and descriptions of the six designs are on view at the exhibition. DRIVEbys documents projects by Jonathan Barnes Architecture and Design, BAWorkshop, Blostein/Overly Architects, Neal Clements, and DesignGroup. The exhibition is curated and designed by Beth Blostein, Associate Professor, Knowlton School of Architecture, and Bart Overly, Blostein/Overly Architects. The exhibition is open to the public. An Engagement/Impact Grant from The Ohio State University Office of Outreach and Engagement is providing primary support for this initiative and the exhibition. MORPC is offering free home ownership classes for those who are seeking to purchase a home. Prospective home buyers will learn about budgets, mortgages, credit and home inspections at three classes. Pushing traditional printmaking techniques to their limits, Samantha Parker Salazar constructs intricate cut-paper installations, inspired by hours of meditation, her work focuses on the obsessive layering of surface imagery and stylized motifs. A vortex of cut forms and vibrant hues, the physical manipulation of paper gives the conceptual power of beauty, destruction and potential to simple material. http://uas.osu.edu

Since his studies at The University of Fine Arts Dresden in the 1990s, Kirsten has investigated the works of notable performers including composer Carl Orff; theatre artist, Elinar Schleef; rhythmic gymnast, Jacques Dalcroze; and dance artist and theorist, Rudolf Laban, whose work Kristen is responding to in this exhibition. http://www.uas.osu.edu 

 

The 30th Annual Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration

Trinity Episcopal Church

The Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission will present awards to seven Ohioans for their efforts to advance nonviolent social change. Speakers will include youth who took first place in their respective age divisions of the 2014 Statewide MLK Oratorical Contest sponsored by the Ohio MLK Holiday Commission. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Jazz Arts Group Inside Track Series: Jeff Coffin & The Mu'tet

Grammy Award-winning saxophonist/composer/educator Jeff Coffin, saxophonist with the Dave Matthews Band and three-time Grammy Award winner with Bela Fleck & the Flecktones will perform with his unclassifiable, genre-smashing, all-star band Jeff Coffin & The Mu'tet. The Mu'tets include some of the finest musicians on the planet - Roy "Futureman" Wooten on acoustic drums, Felix Pastorious on electric bass, Bill "The Spaceman" Fanning on trumpet/space trumpet, and Chris Walters on acoustic piano, Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Hammond B-3 organ and melodia. Jazz Academy Companion Workshop with Jeff Coffin
