COTA Bus Passes

If parking becomes expensive or inconvenient, the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) offers local, monthly bus passes for 62.00 and express bus passes for 85.00. Toys for Tots at the Ohio Statehouse

Now through December 6

The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board is partnering with Columbus-based Lima Company 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines (U.S. Marine Corps Reserve) and the Ohio Senate Emma Project to support the 2013 Toys for Tots campaign. Visitors to the Statehouse can donate new, unwrapped toys during regular business hours from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. at three locations inside the Ohio Statehouse: CSRAB Main Office, South Sliding Doors and East Senate Building Entrance (Third Street).  

 

Update on Proposed Chicago-Columbus High-Speed Passenger Rail Line

Thanks to the numerous signatures on the change.org petition encouraging further study of a high-speed rail line between Columbus and Chicago, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission and the City of Columbus announced that they will further investigate and review the project. MORPC will work with the City of Columbus and other Ohio and Indiana communities along the proposed route to explore the project's feasibility, financial viability and level of local business and community support. http://www.morpc.org

Exhibit: My Crippled Friend

This exhibit investigates the recent history of the intersection of painterly abstraction and the object. While painting as object has often been a formalist issue, the works in this exhibition gather their identity through the subversion of formalism scrambling and reassembling them in an aesthetic shell.

The Columbus Historical Society will be hosting an author signing during which local authors will share and discuss their works about Ohio and Columbus history. The participating authors include Mary Jo Bole, Conrade C. Hinds, David Meyers and Elise Meyers Walker. The evening includes a discussion about the authors' books, a question and answer session and a signing. Advance registration is not required. The Power of One: A Statewide Tribute to Rosa Parks

COSI and the Vern Riffe Center
The Central Ohio Transit Authority, The Ohio State University and Rosa Parks Day Founder, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, are presenting Ohio's ninth annual Statewide Tribute to Rosa Parks. On December 5 at COSI, WOSU TV will record "Conversations," a panel discussion on "The Voting Rights Act... Then and Now." And on December 6 at the Vern Riffe Center, more than 500 children from Columbus city Schools will gather for the signature event, the annual Children's Assembly with Congresswoman Joyce Beatty as the keynote speaker. This program will be shared via live stream to elementary schools throughout the state.
 
The Grand Illumination

Come downtown to celebrate the holiday season with Mayor Coleman at the Grand Illumination. The Scioto Mile features over 200,000 holiday lights and seasonal imagery projected onto the Scioto Mile Fountain. Enjoy carols performed by the Columbus Children's Choir, a light show and sweeping views of Santa and his reindeer as they fly across the sky. Children can visit with Santa and all attendees can enjoy cookies and warm drinks. The lights will be in place through January 11. http://www.sciotomile.com  
 
Columbus Commons Annual Holiday Fair

December 7, 4 - 9  p.m.
The Columbus Commons will celebrate the holiday season with a dazzling display of more than 120,000 holiday lights presented by AEP. A lighting ceremony will take place on Friday, December 6 at 6 p.m. followed by The Conspiracy Band on the Columbus Bicentennial Pavilion Stage. Activities on both Friday and Saturday include trackless train rides, carousel rides, laser tag, a fun slide, a mobile video game room, a petting zoo, facepainting, crafts, entertainment and visits with Santa (a 5.00 wristband is required for the train, carousel, laser tag, fun slide and video game room). Both nights will end with a fireworks display. There will be food trucks on site both nights, and there will be a bar on Friday night featuring seasonal spirits. http://www.columbuscommons.org
