Greetings!

A new year equals new product offerings.

Water Dioramas - We now offer realistic replica ocean, river or harbor scenarios. Using acrylic resin and colors we can create waves, ripples, currents and wakes as a unique model presentation. Of course we also offer waterline models to go along with the diorama in ANY size or scale desired. We'll work with you to recreate any water scenario you'd like. Contact me to discuss your project needs.

Solid Glass Display Cases - In addition to our Mahogany framed Plexiglas cases, we now offer glass display cases. Each case is offered with a choice of a mahogany or oak base, with a 1/8 double strength glass top and solid brass angle framing. More information below.

Company NewsOne for the history books - SD Model Makers was recenlty selected by Dorling Kindersley Limited, publishers of DK Books to contribute over 50 Naval Warship model photos for their recently published book "The Military History Book." Details in the story below.

As always, I've  included some photos of several recently completed models for your enjoyment.

Smooth Sailing,

New Museum Quality Glass Display Cases

As with our models, our glass display cases are custom made to your exact size specifications in our shop. This way the model fits the case perfectly. We cut our own glass, make our own moldings and apply the stain and finish, building the cases from scratch! We custom pack each case in its custom crate for maximum protection and every case is insured during shipping.

Each case is offered with a choice of mahogany or oak base, 1/8 double strength glass top and solid brass angles on the glass. Every glass case is shipped complete and fully assembled. Our glass display cases are not kits so there is nothing else for the customer to buy or assemble, just install your model and enjoy the view!

If you would like a quote on a glass display case, send me the dimesions required and I'll send you a quote. Normally I recommend adding 4 inches to the length (2 inches each fore and aft), 4 inches to the width and 2 inches to the height. Also include your zip code and base wood selection.

Customer Spotlight - Southern Yacht Club

The records of the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans (SYC) trace its history back to the club's founding in the Gulf Coast resort town of Pass Christian, Mississippi in the year 1849. Only the venerable New York Yacht Club can document an earlier founding date. As such, SYC is proud to bear the mantle of the second oldest yacht club in the United States.

Hurricane Katrina made landfall just east of New Orleans on August 29, 2005 causing widespread destruction throughout the region. Though only modestly damaged by wind and flood waters, the clubhouse was ultimately destroyed by a massive fire which burned, unchecked, in the hours following the storm. Sadly, many historic trophies and other priceless artifacts were lost in the fire.

It has been a privilege for SD Model Makers to work with the SYC historical committee to build several replica models of sailboats that have historical significance to the club.
