      Dear Notre Dame Families,

Blessings to all as we celebrate Mothers' Day this weekend.  As Catholics, we know that Mary is the perfect role model for mothers.  As the mother of Jesus, she faced many challenges that mothers today encounter.  One particular challenge Mary faced was the time Jesus could not be found in the temple and later told her and Joseph that he was about his father's business.  This event reminds me of a typical teenager.  It is safe to say that Mary as the mother of Jesus was no different than any mother today.  She is the ultimate mother in that she suffered when her son Jesus was crucified. Yet at the same time she was able to experience the joy  when her son rose from the dead.

Congratulations to Rowan Mc Manus in fourth grade. Rowan won a bicycle at the annual BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY.  Many of our elementary won water bottles, bike  locks, bike lights and goody bags during the assembly that took place.  A special thank you goes to Mayor Walsh for helping out in awarding the prizes.

Our Middle School Spring Concert will take place on Thursday, May 12 at 1 and 6:30 pm. in the Middle School Gym.  The Fifth Grade Band will open the show with a few numbers of their own and then join the Middle School Band for AMAZING GRACE AND THE NOTRE DAME MARCH.  The Middle School Band will continue with their songs.  After the band has completed their portion of the evening, the students in grades 6-8 will present the musical MULAN,JR.
This show features Chinese culture, strong female protagonists and family relationships.  The middle school artwork will be displayed in the Dolski Center. The art displays are great in that all of the middle school students will have at least one piece of artwork displayed that evening.  Ms. Freeman and Ms. Janssen do a great job in bringing out the best out of our students in both the Musical and Visual Arts.

Our annual May Crowning Service is next Wednesday, May 13 at the 8:35 Mass. This is a true celebration as many of our students received their First Communion in one of the twenty three parishes in the Green Bay. The May Crowning gives our school community an opportunity to celebrate the second graders receiving the Blessed Sacrament.  Harmann Studios will take pictures after Mass.  All parents should receive envelopes should they desire to purchase pictures of the entire second grade class.

The eighth graders did wonderful in leading us at Mass yesterday.  They were well prepared in reading during Mass and sang a song for the benefit of the congregation.  It is not easy for the eighth graders to get up and sing in front of a group, but they did a great job and provided a true sense of spirituality and reverence at Mass.  Based on the wonderful job the eighth graders did at Mass yesterday, I challenge them to make the remainder of May a time they will remember for years to come.

May is an exciting month for all of our students as they go on field trips, celebrate special events and work hard the remainder of the school year.   As adults, let us all continue to work together to keep our students focused on their prayer life and their school work in addition to the school activities all of them will participate in.  Mrs. Lamers, Mrs. Nance and I are always available should you have any concerns or questions during this busy month.

I found a special prayer to mothers for Mothers' Day from Catholic Media Network:

GOD OF CREATION, YOU HAVE CHOSEN MOTHERS TO BRING NEW LIFE INTO THE WORLD.  WE HONOR MOTHERS EVERYWHERE, AND WE ASK THAT YOU GRANT THEM THE STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO CARE FOR THOSE IN NEED, LOVING AND GUIDING US TO DO GOD'S WILL. AMEN.

Have a great rest of the week!

       God Bless,

      James A. (Jim) Clark, Principal
