Hello Notre Dame Families!
WE ARE AN EASTER PEOPLE! I don't think anything else needs to be written as it pertains to the Paschal Season. One challenge we have is to work with our children to realize that this time is the most important part of the year in the Catholic Church. Let's work together to help our students understand that.
Our students will take the spring round of the MAP tests next week. The teachers and I talk to the students about the importance of these tests in terms of getting their proper rest, eating well, and doing their best while taking the tests. We as a school find the data very important as the teachers can determine placement of students in various classes, homeroom lists in the elementary grades, and Math in the Middle School. Personally I am most interested in inspecting the numbers pertaining to growth from fall to spring. I hope to have updated material on our MAP page this month.
It is that time of year when elementary parents can request teachers for the 2016-2017 school year. It is IMPORTANT if you request a teacher that this be done by May 1 at the very latest. I had to deny requests when parents requested after this date. We also cannot make guarantees that all requests will be honored, although all of them were last year. Variables in homeroom decisions include but are not restricted to academic needs and relationships between students. The teachers at the elementary school take classroom allocation very seriously. One other thing I cannot do is take requests if a teacher leaves over the summer. I remind you that the main focus of placement is the child, not the teacher.
It is that time of year when the students are going on more field trips. This is an exciting time of year when these trips occur. We need to insist that permission slips are returned in a timely manner per the date on the slip. Liability issues result when permission slips are not returned. It is very disheartening when a student cannot go on a field trip because those slips are not returned. Mrs. Nance and Mrs. Lamers need the permission slips returned by the due date.
Both campuses have accumulated a large number of clothing items in the "Lost and Found" that have not been picked up by the students. This has been particularly a concern at the elementary campus. We are encouraging your child(ren) to look at the Lost and Found to claim items. If you wish to check the Lost and Found in either or both building(s), please feel free to do that.
The Booster Club is organizing an Athletic Banquet. This is a very special way of celebrating the success of our student athletes. See below for more information. Success is measured in many ways that include enjoyment, fundamental skills, socialization and competition. The National Catholic Education and the WIAA stress these concepts as to what a successful elementary/middle school program exhibits.
We continue enrolling students for the 2016-2017 school year. The staff and I have arranged for shadow days as well as taking information from prospective parents. Some of the "groundwork" completed earlier in the year is showing results at this time as it pertains to enrollment for next year. Remember that you and your children are the best marketers of our great school.
You are encouraged to read all of the information on this page in addition to my Weekly Newsletter. A great deal of communication is contained ranging from special events to spring sports information. April and May are very busy times, and keeping up via reading the webpage is very important.
I was reading some needless trivia over the weekend. My trivia question this week is: What is the percentage of people in the world are left-handed? The person who is closest to the correct answer receives $2. I have been told that left-handed people are extremely intelligent.
May God Bless You during the Paschal Season. WE ARE TRULY AN EASTER PEOPLE!
Have a great rest of the week!
God Bless,
James A. (Jim) Clark, Principal
