Hello Notre Dame Families!
Are you spiritually healthy? A friend gave me a book entitle THE FOUR SIGNS OF A DYNAMIC CATHOLIC. Having time to read books during my "hiatus," I found this book very uplifting. The spiritually healthy person exhibits gratitude, is joyful during both good and bad times and being prayerful in a structured and timely way. I find being spiritually healthy something all of us can work to become.
Grandparent and Grand-friend Day is Wednesday, March 2. The day begins with Mass at 8:35 am with the first graders leading the congregation. After Mass please join us at our elementary and middle school buildings for classroom tours and projects. Please enter through our main doors at either building and the school hosts will lead you in the right direction. The morning will finish at 10:30 am. in order to continue our day of learning. We will make arrangements at the elementary school for adults who need assistance walking. If you are interested in helping we could use some volunteers to help guide and direct our visitors. Please see below for a sign up genius. A special thank you goes to Mrs. Kukiela and the Home/School Spirituality Team for organizing this special day. Grandparent/Grand-friend day is one of my favorite days of the school year. My 25 year old still talks about his experiences at Grandparent/Grand-friend day.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be Thursday, March 11 from 3:30-6:30 pm. and Friday, March 12 from 12:30-3:30 pm. Although these conferences are optional, I encourage all of you to see teachers in order to discuss your child's academic and behavioral progress. There is a Sign Up Genius that will facilitate you signing up for your conferences. I will be at the middle school Thursday evening, March 11 and the elementary school Friday afternoon March 12.
Mrs. Nance and Mrs. Lamers are calling parents who are "pending" on the TADS Enrollment Software. We cannot count any student as enrolled until all of the work is done on TADS. If you need any assistance in filling out materials, please contact either Mrs. Nance or Mrs. Lamers. Enrolling in a timely manner is so important as this impacts personnel and budget for the 2016-2017 school year.
I know that many of you have been trained in VIRTUS and have taken the eAPPS Background Check that is required by the Green Bay Diocese if you wish to chaperon field trips, coach sports, assist a teacher and other activities in which there is direct contact with children. The next De Pere VIRTUS training is March 2 at St. Norbert College. We have attached the link in which you can sign up for VIRTUS Sessions in various locations throughout the Green Bay Diocese.
Below you will see that there are some great meetings that Notre Dame Academy is sponsoring about mental health with children and how parents and educators can help students when events in school happen that can affect their emotional health. I strongly encourage you to attend these meetings as APPP2 is a practical extension of what the middle school does with the current APPP program.
I have been very pleased with the initiative the teachers have taken to further their education through outside Staff Development Opportunities. Teachers have attended workshops in the following curriculum/subject areas:
- Technology and Technology Integration
- Literacy and Writing
- Emotional Intelligence
- Science Curriculum
- Teachers Teaching Teachers Materials and Education
- Kindergarten Workshops
- Love and Logic Workshops
The key to any good educator is to take advantage of opportunities afforded them to improve their practice. As in any profession, education changes constantly.
In closing, I just want to give you my building schedule for the next few weeks.
M,W,- All Day, F afternoon - ES
T,Th,- All Day, F morning - MS
I am not "married" to this schedule, but this will be the most practical based on my physical health.
Have a great rest of the week!
God Bless,
James A. (Jim) Clark, Principal
