Hello Notre Dame Families!
One thing a principal does is observe the activities that goes on in the school day to day and week to week. Needless to say, it doesn't take much for me to see all of the activity that has, is, and will go on in the next weeks. I hope I can keep you aware and reminded of the many things that will occur at school.
We are currently checking the number of keys that people have for the building(s). Some of these keys will be deactivated as there is no current accounting of people who use the keys. When we changed the process of issuing keys, the objective was to limit those keys to people such as coaches and anything directly pertaining to activities that are strictly limited to school activities and events. I will be checking with Mrs. Wolfram and other groups who have been given keys.
We are currently looking for someone to help our Notre Dame Middle School Track Team. The middle school track students participate in track and field events similar to what the high school teams do. The season begins in early April and is completed in mid May. Practices are three to four days per week. If you are interested in coaching track, please contact Mrs. Wolfram at 920-660-7663 or lwolfram00 @ yahoo.com Students in grades 5-8 who would like to try tennis this spring should contact Mrs. Wolfram. Mr.John Steckart will be coaching again this year and he would like to have as many students participate as possible. Middle school students who already took pictures for this team do not need to contact Mrs. Wolfram. Students who are eligible to participate in our football program next year will be contacted soon about next year's season. Notre Dame is one of the very few Catholic Schools that have football as part of its athletic program.
Mrs. Weber is coordinating our Destination Imagination team with fifth grade students. Their first competition will be February 27. DI is in many schools throughout the nation that allows students to be creative in STEM and other enrichment activities. Hopefully we can expand DI to other grades next year.
Notre Dame has done very well in Forensics Meets so far this year. Ms. Summers is gearing the students up for a big match at Notre Dame Academy that will take place very shortly. Ms. Summers and Mrs. Pisani have also been advising students in the Battle of the Books Program. The aspect of these programs I appreciate is the enthusiasm the students show when they participate in these activities. All of our extracurricular activities greatly enhance the learning process outside of the regular class schedule.
Mrs. Kukela and the Home and School Association are busily planning Grandparents'/Special People Day, which will be Wednesday, March 2. Please read the newsletter next week for more details. Grandparents' Day is one of the most anticipated and exciting days of the entire school year. I am always amazed at the number of grandparents who come to be with their grandparents. The students are truly proud of their grandparents. My son used to say that he loved Grandparents' Special Friends' Day as his grandmother "spoiled him rotten."
The Student Council is planning a special Almsgiving project for Lent. Mrs. Pagel will present the plan to the staff next Wednesday, February 24. You will receive more communication next week as to the nature of the project.
It is that time of year again when the magazine sale occurs at Notre Dame. There are many new and different prizes that the students should enjoy. One unique aspect of the sale this year is that a student can earn vouchers for credit to college. The kickoffs are today at 12:30 pm. for the middle school and 1:45 pm. for the elementary school. Being the competitive person that I am, our goal should be to exceed the amount Our Lady of Lourdes earned in the fall. It is safe to say that the proceeds from the sale will be spent on programs and activities that the students will benefit from.
Fasting is one of the three things we should do during Lent. Fasting does not always mean giving up food. It can mean things such as fasting from gossip or anything that may hurt another person. One can still fast from food items such as chocolate. At the same time fasting from unkind words and gossip is something that can be more meaningful than other forms of fasting.
Now that I am at school again (I hope to be back full time next Wednesday), I guess you could say I am "BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN." The trivia question this month is who was the singer of this song. The first person who e-mails me the correct answer wins $3. Hint- It is not Willie Nelson.
Have a great rest of the week and if you have not enrolled your child yet for next year, please do so. I hope that all of you and your children can continue to enjoy the special school we call Notre Dame of De Pere.
Have a great rest of the week!
God Bless,
James A. (Jim) Clark, Principal

Parent Education
Mr. Clark has set up a Education Post at the top of our webpage. This week he added the topic More information about Cyber-bullying and creating a positive parent teacher conference. This site is updated constantly. There are many valuable tools in which parents can educate themselves in different aspects of their children's education. Very helpful information. Check it out here.
