Hello Notre Dame Families!

I am so glad to be back.  At my appointment yesterday my doctor said the broken ankle is healing faster than expected.  He put me in a walking boot instead of a cast. This allows me to put a little bit of weight on it so I can "motor around" a bit.

For the next two weeks my hours will be as follows:
  • Monday and Wednesday- 8:00- noon at the es.
  • Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday- 8:00- noon at the ms
There are a number of people I wish to thank while I was "incapacitated".  These include:
  • The teachers and staff, especially Mrs. Cramer and Mr. Schwarten.  They kept me informed as to what was going on on a daily basis.  This provided me with the opportunity to send e-mails and make phone calls in a timely manner.
  • The students who sent cards and letters.  I was quite down the first week after surgery and those cards took away a good bit of pain away.
  • The parents who sent me e-mails and condolences during the time I was out. Your consideration touched both my heart and soul.
  • Mrs. Desotell and my colleagues in GRACE for being so supportive, understanding and patient.
I will be restricted to my office for a period of time as I have a good bit of administrative "minutia" to address.  It is great to be back and I missed all of you very much.

I received an e-mail Monday evening that Mrs. Kohl has been selected as one of 40 teachers for recognition as being selected for the Golden Apple Teaching Award. This award is greatly deserved as Mrs. Kohl has committed her entire educational career in Catholic Education.  This award also reflects the commitment the entire staff has toward the children who attend our fine school.

One thing I have monitored during my time away is the enrollment process and numbers  next year.  I am very pleased with the numbers that have made commitments so far and if there is anything we can do to help in that process, please call us at one of the campuses.  Remember that you and your children are some of the best marketers of our school. Your words to a prospective parent and student about attending Notre Dame School can make all the difference in the world.

There are two revisions and additions in the Parent Handbook.  One addresses the subject of Academic Integrity and the other addresses students who are deficient in their grades.  The concept of Academic Integrity is a behavioral expectation, while the Academic Deficiencies section  is strictly of an academic nature.  These two changes reflect current academic thought and effective teaching practices.

Mrs. Westhoven has been kind enough to forward these dates for Reconciliation:
They are:

Wednesday, February 24- second grade after Mass
Thursday, March 3- 8:30 am- third and fourth grade
Wednesday, March 9 - fifth and sixth grade after Mass
Wednesday,  March 16 - seventh and eighth grade after Mass

I have put a Lenten link on our Facebook page from Loyola Press.  It provides a complete guide as to activities you can do with your child(ren) during Lent. Speaking of Facebook please 'like' us and the share us with your family and friends. If you have not been on Facebook take a look.  We have a very active page. https://www.facebook.com/notredameofdepere

I have learned a great deal about myself and others in the past month. I have a deeper appreciation of people with special needs.  I also need to continue practicing the "3 P'S of Prayer, Patience and Perseverance.

PowerSchool has been in the process of changing the 'OLD' PowerSchool URL to the 'NEW' PowerSchool URL. This change will take place next week and the old will be discontinued on February 16.
OLD PowerSchool URL ishttp://newcas.gbdioc.org
NEW PowerSchool URL is: https://powerschool.gbdioc.org

What does that mean to you as parents?
  • Do you have the URL saved as a favorite?  If yes, remove the bookmark associated with the old URL and create a new bookmark with the new URL.
  • The GRACE School websites have been updated to reflect the change in URLs.
  • If accessing the old URL after February 16, users will receive a message indicating page cannot be found
Parents or Students URL:
https://powerschool.gbdioc.org/public/
