December 3, 2015

Dear Parents,

There are so many enjoyable things going on in the next two weeks.  One of the things we need to do is enjoy the activities our students are participating in and forget for a time the hustle and bustle the month of December brings.

Your child(ren) will be bringing home their report card tomorrow.  Please remember that the report card is one of the snapshots of academic progress.  Please encourage your child if he/she received good grades. If your child did not receive the grades he/she would have liked, work with him/her to set goals for a better report card second trimester.  I wish to remind you that teachers do not give grades but rather the children earn them.  Grade checks for middle school extracurricular activities for second trimester will be January 4, February 1 and March 4.  Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and have no failing grades on those days as I do check all student grades then.

There have been reports lately that some students have been acting inappropriately on the bus.  According to the bus company, these are not our students.  If you have any concerns about bus issues, do not hesitate to call me as I will contact Lamers immediately.

Earlier in the year I encouraged you to forward me any information that indicates something your child successfully did or completed outside of school.  Ellie Rose, one of our eighth graders, was a winner in the 39th Annual Baroque Festival and Competition recently held in Green Bay.  Approximately 100 students competed in 9 levels.  Congratulations Ellie on this great accomplishment.

Likewise, I would like to recognize a number of our students.  Ava Van Straten and Nate Ruggles will serve as Student Ambassadors for our school. They will assist Mrs. Laehn in taking pictures for our FACEBOOK and other items that we will use as marketing tools for school.  Camilia Tinoco, our student from Guatemala will be leaving our community soon after a very successful time taking seventh grade classes.  Personally, I am so impressed with her mastery of the English language. Molly Desotell was a perfect "hostess" in accompanying Camila to her classes and making her feel welcome with all of the students.  I would encourage you to consider hosting a student from Guatemala.  Ms. Mariella Obois from Catholic Student Exchange would like to place more students at Notre Dame.  Elementary as well as middle school parents can be a host family.  A special "shout out" also goes out to Caleb Dietsche  and Danielle Dow for assisting me in touring members of the Catholic Link.  The Catholic Link is a collaborative venture between GRACE, Notre Dame Academy, and St. Norbert College. Both Caleb and Danielle gave the members some great information about Notre Dame School.

We are looking for some people to fill the following paid positions at Notre Dame:

-  Playground Supervisor at the elementary school. This person would supervise students from 3k to fifth grade Monday through Friday from 10 am. to 1:30 pm.  Rate of pay is $9.50 cents per hour.

-  Playground Assistant at the middle school. This person would supervise the middle school students on the playground and escort/supervise the middle school students during their lunch period. This position would be for one hour every day Monday through Friday. The pay is $9 per hour.

-  After Hour workers at the elementary campus.  Hours for these positions will be Monday through Friday from 3 pm. to 5:30 pm. or when all of the students are picked up for the day. The pay is $9 per hour.

If you or someone you know would be interested in these positions, have them contact me at either school phone numbers or my e-mail address.  We do need a person to supervise the playground at the elementary school as early as December 14.  All workers need to be VIRTUS trained and have undergone an eApps background check.

There is a fourth slot on Sign Up Genius for cafeteria helpers from December 4-17. Mrs. Manning will not be available due to a health concern.  Please sign up if you are able to.  You will find that Mrs. Simonet and I enjoy working together and watching your children at lunch.  I can assure you that not only will you be serving the school but you will have some fun with the children as well as with Mrs. Simonet and me.

We are in need of volunteers to help with escorting the middle school students to the elementary school for lunch. We also have openings for elementary lunch supervising. Both are easy things to do, you can pick your dates, it doesn't take up much of your time and it is a great way to meet your service hour requirements. Please consider signing up. I will address this more in depth in my next newsletter Click here to sign up.

Tuesday, December 8, marks the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Our student led Mass will be at 9 am. The location will be St. Mary Church.  Please consider attending as this special day is one that centers upon the patron saint of our school. The student ownership exhibited makes the Mass very meaningful to the students as well as the adults who attend.

Our annual Christmas Concert is next Thursday, December 10 with two presentations. The afternoon presentation will take place at 1 pm. and the evening performance will be at 6:30 pm.  Both presentations will be made by the elementary school children in the middle school gym. The Art Exhibit will be in the Dolski Center at that time.  Both Miss Freeman and Ms. Janssen have worked well with the students in making the concert and art show something that you will enjoy.  Many of our students do wonderful work in both visual and performing arts.  It is a real pleasure to have such great work shown and on display.

Tomorrow we celebrate the feast of St. Francis Xavier, the namesake of our Diocesan Cathedral.  Francis Xavier traveled throughout Japan and Asia spreading the Good News to people he did not know.  Perhaps all of us can do that with people we DO know during Advent.

A reminder: Tomorrow is dress down day.

Have a great rest of the week!

God Bless,

James A.( Jim) Clark, Principal

There are many valuable tools in which parents can educate themselves in different aspects of their children's education. Very helpful information. Check it out here.

Notre Dame Adopt-a-Family Christmas Program 2015
This Christmas Season, the Notre Dame of De Pere school community has the opportunity to share its blessings with local families in need. Mr. Clark along with Christian Outreach have identified families that would benefit from this wonderful program. We have a wish list of gift suggestions and household needs in the sign up genius link below. Monetary donations are also welcome, as we will use these to purchase Hot Lunch school meals and other requested items.
Items do NOT need to be wrapped, but it would be very helpful if you can mark which slot you signed up for on the donation (i.e., Boy 2T pants). Please send all donated items to the school offices, labeled Adopt-a-Family at any point prior to December 11th as this will ensure that everything is wrapped and delivered to the families on time.
Thanks in advance for your help in making this program a success!
If you have any questions please contact Erin Enright, Jessie Lawton, or Sommer May.

Some are fund-raisers, some are fun-raisers, some are in support of our Athletics Department, teachers and staff, Home and School, and some to meet our Third Source Funding goal. ALL are to support Notre Dame of De Pere! We would not be such a fantastic school without the volunteer support of our school families!  For more information and to sign up please click here
