November 5, 2015

Dear Parents,

I had the privilege in attending a reception this week celebrating the new St. John Paul II Classical School in Green Bay. St. John Paul II Classical School will be the eleventh school that is now part of the GRACE System.

The evening began with presentations by both Bishop Ricken and Mr. Brad Norton, Headmaster of "JP II".  Both Bishop Ricken and Mr. Norton spoke about the way students would be educated in the Classical Format.  Although the approach to education at St. John II Classical School is different from that of Notre Dame, the goal for our students is the same.  The mission of both schools is simple in that when students leave our school they should be able to think critically, speak and write well, and celebrate joyfully.  All of the other things we do in education (eg: technology integration, data collection from MAP) should arise from these three simple concepts.  If we follow what both Bishop Ricken and Mr. Norton spoke about this past week, our school will be the best it can and will be.

This week is National Vocation Awareness Week.  This is a week for all of us to reflect upon how God is calling our children to love and serve him.  It is also a time for extra prayers and support for our seminarians and other Religious. We will be supporting vocations by sending all parents a Morning Offering for Vocations Prayer Card.  Families are also invited to adopt a seminarian by using the Signup Genius to adopting a seminarian.  Thank you for your consideration and support.

This week's MAP test nugget is about school norms.  The 2015 Norms for MAP are more rigorous than those of 2011, the date which the last norms were developed. The new norms will guide us in using this data more effectively to address areas of strength and growth.  The teachers will be meeting next week to discuss other ways we can use MAP test data to improve both teaching and learning for each child.

Please be aware that all, after school sign-in sheets need to be turned in to Mrs. Lamers by the due date started.  If you turn in your sign-in sheet after this date, please calculate the amount due at the drop in rate of $16 per hour on the day your child attends if they are not signed up.  The After School Care program is for the benefit of school families and as such, they are trying to keep the price down. Please follow these rules so that this program can run as smoothly as possible.  We will also address After Hours the same as hot lunch. If you pay for After Hours and your child does not come that day, the payment for the missed day will not carry over to another day. The only exception is if the child is involved in an after school extracurricular activity.

I would like to clarify that any student caught chewing gum, mints or candy during the school day will report to their respective school site at 7:30 am. the morning after discovered doing so. This is a change in the Parent Handbook as the time was originally 7:15 am.  It is very tempting for students to put gum or candy in places that forces maintenance to take time to clean it.  I wish to thank students and parents for their support in helping us hold students accountable with this matter.  This does not pertain to students who eat snacks as part of their early morning routine.

The Notre Dame of De Pere Family would like to wish the teams at Notre Dame Academy much success this week.  The Girls Volleyball Team are competing at the Resch Center, and the Football Team will play Appleton Xavier tomorrow night in Appleton.  We would like to give a "shout out" to the participants on the teams who graduated from Notre Dame School of De Pere.

One special event Notre Dame has each year is the assembly commemorating Veterans' Day.  The ceremony will be Wednesday, November 11 at 1:30 pm in the middle school gym.  Ms. Freeman coordinates this event and I know the students and Veterans appreciate honoring our many soldiers who have served and given their lives for their country. As a Navy "brat,"  I appreciate this event as my father served twenty years in the United States Navy.  Please come and honor our many Veterans.

I hope to see you at tomorrow night's Key Event at The Swan Club.  Please consider purchasing a ticket for the raffle items. The coordinators of the Key Event still need some volunteer positions filled.  Please help them out. Below you will find the sign up genius to help. The staff has contributed monies for a ticket. Hopefully we will be the lucky winners of one of the automobiles displayed at both buildings.

Have a great rest of the week!

God Bless,

James A.( Jim) Clark, Principal
