This week is National Young Readers Week. Jean Healy, our librarian and supportive consultant asked me to take the Pizza Hut/Book It Challenge and I read my heart out all day long (today) concluding my reading on the roof of the elementary school. I was joined by 3 of our middle school 8th grade students who were Cat in the Hat and Thing One and Thing Two. Research shows that the single most important factor in raising a reader is reading aloud to them. And, the only way to get better at reading is to do it. We did it and it was a blast. Reading is so important to our children! Please visit the Book Fair at the Dolski Center from Nov. 18-22.
We prayed the rosary before Mass on Wednesday. Grades 4-8 were in attendance at St. Francis. A big thank you to Katie Westhoven and Dustin Katona for leading us all in the rosary. We will continue to say the rosary at least on a monthly basis before Mass. It is a beautiful and powerful way to pray. Please feel free to join us.
On Monday, Veteran's Day we had a moving school assembly in the middle school gym. More than 35 veterans were in attendance and the names of over 600 veterans of our Notre Dame families were on a power point. Featured was an Honor Guard, The National Anthem, the introduction of the attending veterans and the theme songs of the five major branches of service. Cards and letters were presented to the veterans that attended. Thank you to all Veterans past and present for your service.
Last Friday we had an Activity night at the middle school for all the middle school students. This event was spearheaded by Patti Pagel and the Notre Dame Student Council. It was a great time to bond and have fun at school. Over 60 students played dodgeball, volleyball, Wii games, chess and various other board games. A special thank you to Patti and all the teachers that helped with this fun event.
Don't forget to donate to the Food Drive. It ends on Friday, Nov. 22.
Keep your feet on the concrete! Please remind your children to stay on the sidewalk. The leaf piles are so tempting to jump into and the snow banks will be here before you know it. But we need everyone to be safe and stay on the sidewalk, away from the street. Thanks for your help!
TOMORROW IS A DRESS DOWN DAY FOR $1 - Proceeds will be going to the tragedy in the Philippines. Please review the Dress Code for
Non-uniform dress code in the handbook.
