Dear Notre Dame Families:
Important news on the elementary school math front!
Last year we purchased new math curriculum for the middle school so that we can follow the "Common Core" standards. This year we are purchasing the Math Expressions series for elementary school (K through 5). We currently use Math Expressions in Kindergarten.
Both the middle school and elementary school series are published by the same company and follow the Common Core State Standards. This is a very exciting development for our elementary school math program. Math Expressions was recommended by the Grace education committee (I serve as a member of this committee). More details to follow.
Last week our students competed in the Green Bay area forensics meet. The Notre Dame group, led by Ms. Weiss, received grades of no less than an "A"for every performance. Way to go Notre Dame Forensics!!!
Maggie Afshar, Elizabeth Bolin, Audrey Sladek, and Ciara Van Dreese performing a Mid-Summer Night's Dream (Shakespeare). This performance received one of the only "A+" scores of the evening!!
Part of the Forensics team from left to right Audrey Sade, Elizabeth Olin, Theo Van Straten, Charlie Urick, Ben Richards, and Thomas Shade.
Donuts for Dads this past Wednesday was fun!!! and filling!!! It was so filling we ran out of donuts. We will just have to stay up later baking the donuts next year. I think there was a record turn out. Way to go dad's and thank you to the mom's that served the donuts. Remember dad's in a few weeks we will be serving "Muffins for Mom's."
Notre Dame has been a busy place! Congratulations to Mrs. Westhoven and Mr. Westhoven! Mrs. Westhoven our middle school religion teacher, had two beautiful, healthy babies on Monday(Thank God for their health!) and a healthy mom! Their names are Oliver Edward (4.9lbs.) and Henry Douglas (4.5 lbs.). Both babies were born on Monday, March 18th. Ms. Westhoven's replacement for the rest of the year, is Mr. Collins, a "retired" Catholic school teacher. He can be reached at mcollins@gracesystem.org. Mr. Collins has experience teaching religion and is a devout Catholic. Our goal for the rest of the year is to continue following the outstanding curriculum put in place by Mrs. Westhoven. Thank you to Mrs. Kohl (Mr. Collins did not arrive until Wednesday and we weren't expecting him for about six weeks) who put together Wedneday's Mass for the seventh grade on a moments notice.
Kudos goes out to the second graders from Brownie Troop #24126. The Brownies, made "Get Well" cards for all the patients in my chemo unit at St. Mary's. (As you can see I'm doing great, for more information visit caringbridge). Thank you Brownies; you brought smiles to all the patients as St. Mary's including the ones below:
