Martin Luther King Day -- Ms. Lynn's Class

Dear Notre Dame Families:

Registration: I need your help!!!  Thank you to all who have already registered!!! Notre Dame has grown enrollment each of the last three years!! Our goal is to grow enrollment again.  We have had many students visiting/shadowing at all grade levels. Very exciting!!! But I need your help getting "existing" students registered for next year. Please keep in mind that staffing decisions are based on enrollment and these dates are fast approaching.  With Father Dane at the helm administration is either on schedule or ahead of schedule.  Thank you Father Dane!

Golden Apple Awards: Notre Dame of De Pere is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Young, our amazing 5th grade teacher, has once again been named by the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce as Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction for 2013.   This is the 2nd straight year in a row that Mr. Young has been awarded this distinction.  How impressive!!!   Teachers of Distinction are chosen as part of the annual Golden Apple Awards process based on their commitment to meeting the unique needs of learners, knowing how to involve students in relevant learning activities, and creating learning environments that stimulate students' learning and attainment of instructional goals.   Any Notre Dame student, teacher or parent, who has seen Mr. Young in action certainly will agree that he is the epitome of a Golden Apple recipient.

All Teachers of Distinction will be honored during the Golden Apple Awards evening program, which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center.

If you see Mr. Young, be sure to congratulate him and tell him how proud we are of him and all he does to make Notre Dame of De Pere a great school!

Pope Benedict: The global Catholic community had both sad and exciting news last week as we learned that Pope Benedict XVI will be stepping down at the end of this month.  Your children may be asking how a new Pope is elected. Here is a handy FAQ to share with your children should it come up at the dinner table.

Fleece Collection: Notre Dame of De Pere is holding a fleece collection of new or gently used fleece jackets.  They will be given to Tank Elementary School in Green Bay. Please consider giving to this good cause to keep these children warm.  Collection dates are March 4th & 27th in the school offices.  For more details check out the link below.

Just a heads up! Notre Dame Academy will be offering foreign language on Saturday, March 9th at NDA!

connellyEvan's Enchanted Evening
Hello Parents and Friends,

Hello.  Our names are Kim and John Connelly.  We have five children at Notre Dame of De Pere this year and a two year at home.  Two of our children, Evan who is in 5th grade and Becca who is two years old, have Fanconi Anemia (FA).  Fanconi Anemia is a rare genetic disorder that affects their DNA repairing ability.  On March 9th, we would like to invite you to Evan's Enchanted Evening.  It is an elegant night of dinner, dancing, live/silent auctions and hope.  All money raised goes to helping find better bone marrow transplant methods, screening and treatments for numerous kinds of cancers, tumors and leukemias and, someday, a cure for this disease.  For more information on the event, to attend or donate an item or monetary amount, please visit our Facebook event site at www.facebook.com/events/338831456202434 or contact us personally at #339-0503.  We would love for you to attend and would gratefully accept any help you can give.
For more information on Fanconi Anemia, please visit these sites:  www.fanconi.org or www.caringbridge.org/visit/evanconnelly

With sincere gratitude for all you mean to us and do for our family, Kim and John Connelly

aletaThank You!!!!

Dear Notre Dame Families,

We are so appreciative for all that you've done, and want to say thank you for all the love, support, and prayers that you have given us in this difficult time.  You have been so very kind and generous!

Aleta loved going through the bag of goodies you all got for her!  It has been so nice to pull that stuff out when she needs a "mood-changer".  She loves all the new hats, and all the other sweet stuff.  I will love the extra help cleaning!  That was a very thoughtful and generous gift - thank you!

Most of you already know that Aleta is on Caringbridge, and we continue to update - usually after her chemo appointments.  She has been doing so well, and can only imagine a positive outcome!  We are so happy she has such a great preschool, with a wonderful group of kids to play with.  Being there brightens her day :)

We know that God is seeing us through this, and He's looking out for her!

Jamie and Shelly Weigandt

Athletics Announcement
TRACK COACH WANTED:
It's hard to think about the track season, but it's right around the corner.  We are looking for a Middle School Track Coach.  We have several parents who helped out last year that are willing to help again, but we need someone to be the lead person.  Track is for 6-8 graders and we usually have about 60 kids that come out for it.  It's a great healthy activity to keep the kids active in the spring.  Last year, our teams broke 8 records so we've got some talented kids to work with.  The season runs from April to Mid May.
If you are interested or know of someone that may be, please call Lynn Wolfram at 920-660-7603 for more details.

BELLIN RUN:
Once again we would like to offer the Bellin Run Training Program at our school.  As most of you know, Susan Moran has been our lead person for many years.  Her daughter has graduated from Notre Dame so we are looking for some families that are willing to help us out with this program.  I'm willing to help, but I also help with the track program so I'm looking for some parents that can help me out.  You don't need to be a fast runner or if you can't run, you can also bike with the kids.  This is a great activity for the younger kids.  We usually start them around the 2nd or 3rd grade depending on the child.  Training usually runs from April - June and we usually try to run right after school 2-3 days.  Please consider helping out so we can continue to offer this at our school.  Please contact me (Lynn Wolfram) if interested at 920-660-7603.
