Dear Notre Dame Families:

Yesterday,  I was fortunate enough to watch Mrs. Blaylock's classroom release their butterflies.  The children learned about the life cycle beginning as a caterpillar, the chrysalis (Ethan helped me spell chrysalis), and finally turning into a beautiful butterfly.  Great job!!!!!!

It's hard to believe how fast this school year is going.  The mid-point of the first tri-mester is almost here which means it's conference time. Conferences will held after school on Tuesday the 23rd  (from 3:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.) and Thursday the 25th (from 12:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.).  MAP's test results will be sent home later this week.  This will give time to review your child(ren's) results prior to conferences.

There are several important upcoming events that I would like to highlight.  This coming Friday is Fall Fest. Fall Fest is a great family get together held in the Dolski Center and the Notre Dame gym.  On Sunday, the Athletics Booster Club is sponsoring a Packer fun party.   And the Key Club event, our largest fundraiser, is just aroundthe corner on Friday November 2nd.  Click on links below for more information.

JUMP WITH JOY,
Jeff

The St. John's Shelter has invited the Notre Dame of De Pere School to be a part of their first Open House for the entire Community on October 25th from 4:30-8 pm.  They have invited us to prepare and serve the meal with our children (the kiddos are allowed to help serve the meal due to this being prior to the shelter opening for the season)  This is a great opportunity to show our kiddos around the shelter and teach them where the amazing food that everyone has been contributing is going to throughout the year. They have asked that each child signing up to volunteer is in 1st grade or older and has an adult on site to assist if needed.  The second grade has started signing up to make the meal and we will keep the school posted as additional help may be needed.  However, we wanted to open up the voluntering opportunity to the entire school.  Anyone (all ages!) is also welcome to stop by the shelter at any time convenient for a tour and bowl of chili without signing up to volunteer.

Today, childhood lead poisoning is considered the most preventable environmental disease among young children, yet approximately half a million U.S. children have blood lead levels above normal. A simple blood test can prevent permanent damage that will last a lifetime. During National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, October 21-27, 2012, the Brown County Lead Coalition would like to remind you that:

    • Children under age 6 are most at risk for lead poisoning.
    • Lead exposure often occurs with no obvious symptoms, it frequently goes unrecognized.  Get your home tested. Get your child tested. Get the facts!
    • Was your house painted before 1978? Protect your family from lead exposure.
    • Remodeling the home? Renovate right with lead-safe work practices.
    • Talk to your health department about testing home paint and dust for lead.

If you have questions or concerns about lead exposure and your child, please contact your local health department.  You can reach Brown County Health Department by calling Stacy Ross at 920-448-6436, De Pere Health Department at 920-339-4054 or Oneida Community Health Center at 920-869-4840 .
