SHOT: Fish to Benefit Tillamook-Area Fisheries

Register before September 15 for the early bird price of $270 per three-person team for the 2015 SHOT tournament October 15-17. The price will increase to $300 September 15. Take advantage of the early-bird savings so that you can be part of a fun event that dedicates all net proceeds to benefit Tillamook-area fisheries. There's even a special deal for chapters: if there is more than one team from your chapter, the second team is free! All events will be at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds.

There will be a special presentation about fishing Tillamook Bay for Chinook right after the Thursday night guides' meeting. You only need to have one member of your team present, but, if your entire team can attend, you'll have a step up on other teams with Bob Rees' tips and techniques.

Fishing will start Friday in any open waters of the five rivers near Tillamook, Tillamook Bay, the Nestucca estuary, or the Nehalem estuary. Fishing will continue Saturday, until fish are weighed in by 5:00. In addition to the awards dinner, there will be a silent auction and door prizes. You definitely will not go away from the dinner hungry!

If you have questions about the tournament, contact Tim Lenihan at 503-310-9824. In any case, register before September 15!

Clackamas Down the River Cleanup
Come float and fill your boat at the 13th Annual Down the River Clean Up Sunday, September 13th. For the first time in 12 years, the event will include Milo McIver State Park as an official boat launch for floaters joining the effort to keep the Clackamas River clean, extending this year's trash sweep by 10 miles to include a 20+ mile stretch of the Clackamas River from Estacada to the confluence with the Willamette River in Oregon City. Pre-registration is required online!

Join the Clackamas River Basin Council, We Love Clean Rivers, and a flotilla of over 350 volunteers in rafts, kayaks, drift boats and SCUBA gear to scour the Clackamas River's streambed and banks for trash. Each year, an average of 2-3 tons of garbage is collected, over half of which is recycled. All non-motorized paddle crafts may participate and launch at one of four parks: McIver (Lower Boat Ramp), Barton, Carver, and Riverside Park during a rolling start from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Boaters must have Class II+ whitewater experience, provide all their own gear, shuttle, and wear a life jacket.

On-water and on-land volunteer opportunities are available, too! SCUBA divers and free divers are also welcome. Free BBQ and raffle prizes at Barton Park for all volunteers from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

2015 Annual Meeting

Saturday, August 22nd, officers, directors, chapter presidents, and delegates met in the Port Light Cafe at Camp Rilea. Chapters present not only participated but were issued raffle tickets and the Summer Issue of The Northwest Steelheader. Sandy River President Steve Rothenbucher urged other chapters to follow Sandy's lead in presenting clinics in conjunction with ODFW and offered to make the manual the chapter has authored available to other chapters who wish to put on clinics with ODFW. Those present voted to take no position on removal of limits on non-native fish; they also endorsed a $5 membership fee increase for Senior, Introductory, Regular, and Family memberships, bringing ANWS closer to other organizations' membership fees.

2015 Hall of Fame Banquet

This year's Hall of Fame Banquet has been moved to a more central location, the Wilsonville Holiday Inn just west of I-5 Exit 286. There will be more space for new games and easy movement through the silent auction area. Collin O'Meara, President of the National Wildlife Federation, will be the keynote speaker. Plan to join hundreds of other Steelheaders to celebrate our partnerships with organizations, agencies, and between members. Please patronize our 2015 Hall of Fame sponsors whenever possible.

Early bird pricing is in effect until November 1, so register now. You may purchase a half table this year if your chapter is small or if you need more space than the standard table for 10. Half tables will be placed adjacent to full tables for the same chapter.
