Josh and Stacey VanBoening Join Phelps Memorial Health Center
By Elena Olson King
Josh VanBoening, Senior Vice President of Ancillary Services, pulls a newly printed business card out of the box. His office is located in the administrative area of Phelps Memorial Health Center, which was renovated in 2013. His wife, Stacey, an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), is busy in the redesigned emergency room which also opened in June 2013. They are building a new home in Holdrege and their youngest son, Landon, began kindergarten at the Holdrege Elementary School which opened this past August.
Although all the "newness" which surrounds the VanBoenings in Holdrege may have influenced their choice to accept job offers from Phelps Memorial Health Center, it wasn't the primary reason; they chose to relocate to Holdrege for their family. Josh and Stacey both grew up in small communities and wanted the same for their three sons. Stacey is originally from Milligan and Josh grew up in Blue Hill. He also has family who live in Alma.
Their older sons, Brady and Benjamin, are still attending school in Hastings while Josh, Stacey, and Landon commute to Holdrege. In addition to the career opportunities for themselves, they are excited about what Holdrege has to offer for their children. The hospital even helped them connect with the schools as they made their decision. "At Phelps Memorial there is a sense of community and they wanted us to be successful in our careers and with our family," Josh explains. "It makes you feel welcome."
Although Stacey began working in Holdrege only a few months ago and Josh at the beginning of August, they are enjoying being a part of the PMHC team. "There is a lot of talent here. We are lucky to be a part of that," Josh continues. Ancillary Services include the lab, radiology, respiratory therapy, the specialty clinics, and High Plains Clinic, among other departments. Josh is a registered nurse and previously served as the Clinical Nurse Educator at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings. Stacey, with a background in critical care as well as cardiology, practices in the emergency room and performs stress tests. When asked about how Stacey likes working in the emergency room, Josh describes, "She loves it."
Josh and Stacey hope their older sons will enjoy Holdrege as much as they do. After their home is completed, Brady will begin at Holdrege Middle School and plans to enroll in the band program. He plays the cello, the alto saxophone, and the piano. The VanBoenings are also impressed with the services Holdrege Elementary School offers their middle son, Ben.
Mark Harrel, CEO of Phelps Memorial, describes how the hospital feels about adding the VanBoenings to the staff, "We are excited to have two highly professional individuals join our team. They will be a great addition to Phelps Memorial and our community."
