Holdrege's newest bank fitting right in
By Jean Issler
When Bruning State Bank decided to locate a branch of its business in Holdrege, the owners found a good fit.
Bruning State Bank officers were accustomed to driving through Holdrege on their way to the Broken Bow branch of the bank. Holdrege Branch President John Boehler said they were impressed with what Holdrege offers its community in the form of The Tassel, YMCA and other facilities.
When the bank looked deeper into Holdrege, it found a strong agriculture background in farming and ranching. Holdrege being a county seat was an important factor, as was the ag base in Phelps County and its trade area.
"They found a place where additional diversification could be done," according to Boehler.
Bruning State Bank began growing its roots in Holdrege with a loan production office in August 2009. A temporary building for the branch opened in December that year. By November 2010, the current building was occupied.
In addition to Boehler's leadership, there is Vice President Kyle Anderson. The two bankers had worked together previously and brought several colleagues and staff with them to the new bank. They say some customers also came with them to the new bank, but they have gained many new customers.
Anderson said, "We are grateful for the commitment of the bank in providing a good facility and we are grateful for the support of the community and our customers."
Relationships with customers are important at Bruning State Bank. "We strive daily to provide the best customer service," said Boehler. "When you call you get a person. We want you to feel at home. This is a community bank, not one with a corporate type of structure. Decisions are made locally."
The bank was formed in 1891 and has been a family-owned business for five generations. The home office is located in Bruning, a small town about 40 miles south of York. It has branch offices in Hebron and Broken Bow as well as Holdrege.
Bruning State Bank offers all the traditional banking services and those with newer technology. All services are available at the Holdrege location: on line banking; mobile banking; ag, operating and real estate loans; commercial loans for real estate, operations and financing; consumer loans; and mortgages, home loans, and home equity lines of credit; and Individual Retirement Accounts.
Most recently, the bank has added remote capture in addition to their mobile banking app. This allows customers to deposit checks electronically by sending in a photo of the check.
The bank also offers financial planning, farm management, and a trust department. The Holdrege location is at 1215 Burlington Street and can be reached at 308-995-3880. An information-packed web site can be found at www.bruningbank.com .
