  Buddha in the Attic
Librarian Debra Sarr leads the discussion of The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka. The award-winning novel is the story of a group of young women brought to San Francisco from Japan as picture brides nearly a century ago.   

     

Meet Artist Robert Lach
Thursday, March 7 at 6pm

 The three-dimensional artwork of Robert Lach is currently on display in the Library. Lach's work is based on the concept of "home" and is inspired by the architecture used by birds in constructing their nests. Lach uses materials gathered from the local environment in his creations. Come to the reception and learn about his work and inspiration. Light refreshments will be served. This event is sponsored by the West Orange Arts Council.

  

Women in Their Own Businesses  

Thursday, March 7 at 7pm 

Starting and managing a successful business is no easy task. This free workshop explores issues unique to women entrepreneurs. Any woman who own a business or is thinking about starting one should attend this informative program. Sponsored by the Service Corps of Retired Executives (S.C.O.R.E.).

 

A Musical Salute to Molly Picon, Star of the Yiddish Theatre

The exciting life and legendary career of Molly Picon is portrayed in this free program. Picon was considered the First Lady of the Yiddish stage in the 1920's. Dr. Diane Cypkin of Pace University performs and also narrates the program in English. Keyboard accompaniment will be provided by Lena Panfilova, a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory. Funding for this program is provided by the Bernard Ducoff Lecture Series in the Arts and Humanities. Advance registration is recommended. Click here to sign up.

 

Creative Connection

Join in the monthly discussion of the creative process. Topics may include dealing with creative blocks, preparing for projects, and competing in the marketplace. The group can also offer constructive feedback on your work. Everyone interested in the creative process is welcome. This program is presented in partnership with the West Orange Arts Council.

Poetry Workshop

A casual roundtable led by poet Peg Vassalo. Make sure to bring paper and pencil - prompts and discussion will help get your creative ideas flowing. If you have a poem to share, please bring ten copies to the program.

In honor of National Women's History Month, we highlight Facts on File's American Women's History Online.This resource covers the people, events, legislation, and issues relevant to the study of US women's history. The database is great for the family's school assignments or for learning about women's history just to satisfy your own curiosity. Use specific terms to search for targeted information or browse the Topic Center and select whatever interests you.
