Database of the Month

February is Black History Month, and what better way to honor that legacy than to take a look at Facts on File African-American History Online. Featuring Biographies, Timelines, and Primary Sources, this database can give you an in-depth understanding of the history of African Americans in our country. It includes videos, images, maps and charts to make the information come alive. There are also Topics that bring together various resources to fully cover a particular subject and period of time.

 

West Orange Writers' Group

If you are an aspiring writer interested in meeting other writers for gentle critiquing of each other's work, mark your calendar for our monthly Writers' Group meeting. The meetings are an open, informal forum for anyone interested in any kind of writing - fiction, nonfiction, children's poetry, etc. Make sure to bring a sample of your work.

A Day of Health & History

In honor of Black History Month, the WO African Heritage Organization presents a free program in collaboration with the Montclair Drifters and the Bibliophiles. The afternoon's topics include:

  • Tribute to a WO Civil War veteran;
  • Healthy eating tips from Shop Rite's dietician;
  • Discussion of the book "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks";
  • Presentation by a heart transplant survivor.

The majority of NJ libraries have been affected by increased budget cuts over the last few years. These cuts have had a severe impact on library services as shrinking budgets result in reductions to programming, collections, and access. 2nd Annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover Party

Bring your favorite stuffed animal to a special storytime.Then, kiss him goodnight and come back to the Library to pick him up the next day. Photos of the toys' adventures in the Library will be posted online. Space is limited. Advance registration is required.
