Update 38
October 30, 2013
Announcements:

Registration for Leadership Course 101 Extended:

Registration for the Leadership Course 101 has been extended to Friday, November 1.

Due to high demand in several regions, we have increased the capacity at several of our training sites.

We encourage all school and district leaders that did not have an opportunity to register because the sessions were full to complete their registration now.

In addition, we are pleased to announce the location of the training sites for the Leadership Course 101.

For more information about training site locations and to register, please visit our page at
www.tncore.org/register. We hope that many of your school and district participate in this training. If you have any questions, please e-mail us at [email protected].

CRA and Writing Grade Level Summaries for Teachers:

The Constructed Response Assessment (CRA) and Writing Assessment from the 2012-13 school year give us our first look at student performance on the Common Core State Standards. In recent weeks we have released statewide results for the Writing Assessment (here) and for the CRA (here), and hosted a webinar on how to interpret these results (a recording  of that webinar will be posted here by the end of the week). Grade level summaries, designed to help teachers and school-level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) make sense of the results and develop plans to address areas of challenge, are available below.

CRA Grade Level Summaries

Writing Grade Level Summaries

(Note: These tools are recommended for use by teachers in the stated grade and for teachers in the next grade. For example, a sixth grade math teacher might look at a sixth grade CRA guide to understand challenges with sixth grade content and also review the fifth grade CRA guide to see the gaps for their current group of students. The eighth grade writing guide can be used by eighth grade teachers as well as ninth grade teachers.)

Please share these documents with principals and teachers in your district. For each grade level, these summaries include:

  • Data on areas of strength and areas of challenge
  • Content explanations for the standards that were the greatest area of challenge
  • Links to resources on those topics and
  • PLC guides

CORE offices are also scheduling meetings with districts to discuss CRA and Writing Assessment results.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact [email protected] or contact your CORE director (here).

CRA 2013-14 Phase I Scoring Guides Now Available for Grades 1-8:

The scoring guides for one task in each grade 1-8 are now available for teachers to access and download here. These materials include a task-specific scoring rubric and student work that demonstrates a variety of score points. Scoring guides for all remaining tasks will continue to be added on a rolling basis. By Friday, Nov. 1, we will post recorded webinars that walk-through the scoring guides. Scoring guides for at least one task for all grades have been posted on www.TNCore.org. Due to the different scoring windows for Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, scoring guides for all remaining tasks will be added on a rolling basis.
