Options for Rollout of TNCore Summer Training at the District Level:

This is the last week of TNCore summer training and we would like to say thank you to all the participants and all the district leaders who worked to make this training a success. Based on requests from districts and feedback from Core coaches, we have created a packet of resources to help districts as they plan to rollout the training to the teachers who were unable to attend. All materials are now posted on www.TNCore.org.  and will be available for download. These document, including summaries of the modules, notes on the goals of each component and facilitator notes, seeks to make transparent our approach to the design and delivery to aid anyone seeking to redeliver the same content.   It is informed by the thoughts of coaches, content staff and our content partners who helped us design the courses. In these documents, we will outline three different models for how districts can rollout training. Documents are currently available for the following grade levels and subject areas:

Documents for the subject area literacy training (social studies, science, and technical subjects) will be released next week.  Please email [email protected] with any questions.

2013-14 Social Studies Assessments:

The Tennessee Department of Education has received questions as to whether there will be social studies EOC and TCAP exams during the 2013-14 school year. To be clear, there will be social studies TCAP and EOC exams during the 2013-14 school year, and the tests will continue to be based on the current state performance indicators (SPIs). The results of social studies assessments are not a component of the school and district accountability measures; however, the assessments are included in teacher's TVAAS effect scores. The 2013-14 school year will be the final year of testing based on the previous SPIs. The State Board of Education will be doing a second review of the proposed social studies standards next week, and this fall, we will share more information about the future of social studies testing.
