HIGH SCHOOL

Time to Get Involved

We are three weeks into school, so now is the time for students to get involved if they haven't already! Last Friday, the High School had a club promotion day where they showcased their clubs and honor societies. This was a great day for students to see what is open and available to them. With such a variety in the types of clubs that we have, all students can find something that will capture their interest. Not only do the clubs serve as a place where students can get involved, but they also have been designed so that students have a chance to give back since each organization has to have a community service component. For more information about the club offerings we have, please click here.

What do a dollar bill, a Coca-Cola can, and a Barbie doll have in common?

You may be surprised to learn that they are three markers used to describe the average size of premature babies. Preemies are just one of beneficiaries of the Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit charitable organization that provides $2.5 billion in uncompensated care each year to children facing cancer, organ transplants, and other serious illnesses, as well as training for 80% of all pediatric specialists.

LOWER SCHOOL
Dear Families,

It was another great week in the Lower School! We started our week with the WPVA's Boosterthon Pep Rally. It was a lot of fun and certainly set the tone for a positive week. You are probably hearing a lot about the grade level huddles that are taking place each day. These huddles are designed to keep the students motivated and also to go over key character education lessons. The lessons are focused around building community involvement, the power of giving positive feedback to others, the importance of being a good listener, the benefits of staying active everyday, and showing appreciation to others. We are looking forward to supporting our WPVA through this fundraiser and hope you will too.

Community School classes have started, and the students are very excited to begin their new adventures. Please make sure to communicate with your child's teacher the classes they will attend.

Student Profile

It is essential that all parents log in to Skyward and update your child's Student Emergency and Health Profile. This information is critical to keeping your child safe at school. If you need assistance, please call the LS school office or stop in to see us. We will be happy to help you.

A Message from the Nurse:

In an effort to maintain a healthy school environment for all of our students, please keep in mind these policies implemented by WPS:

Fever: A student must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school.

Vomiting: There must be at least 24 hours since your child's last episode of vomiting before returning to school.

Diarrhea: Please don't send your child to school if they are experiencing multiple episodes of diarrhea. Please be certain that the diarrhea has stopped completely.

Thank you. Please don't hesitate to contact the nurse with any questions or concerns.

Hello Parents!

We kicked off our Boosterthon fundraiser this week with an amazing pep rally! You should have received information in your child's backpack earlier this week. We will continue the fun for the next week and will culminate with the FunRun on September 11!

The Middle School will run at 8:00 outside, and the Lower School will run at 10:00 in the gym. We are looking for volunteers to help the day of the run, but all parents are invited to come and watch. Please contact Elsa DeLemos at elsadelemos@hotmail.com if you are available to help.

The students are having a blast learning about community through the Rock 'n Town Live theme! So far this week, we learned about how, as a community, we must plug in to serve by putting others' needs in front of our own, and we learned how important it is to amplify others, because we have the power to make others stronger with our words.

Please remember to register your student on funrun.com so they can get the free Rockin Wristband. Funrun.com also has all the music videos from each Community Challenge. Be sure to check them out. They're really good!

This weekend is a special challenge - the "Weekend Challenge." Any student who gets $2 per lap or $60 flat donation over the weekend will receive the bonus reward All Day Flex Flames on Monday. The students are super excited to rise to the challenge!

Thanks again for your help and supporting WPS! Let's work together to finish strong and reach our goal! We'll see you at the Boosterthon Fun Run event next week! Have a great weekend! Click for flier

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Dear Middle School Families,

Four days make for a short, but busy week. We kicked off the month of September with our assembly for WPVA's Boosterthon fundraiser. Please help support this worthy endeavor. Our Color Run is scheduled for Thursday, September 11. Students are asked to come to school in a P.E. uniform with a regular uniform change of clothes.

Many Middle School Clubs are in full swing, with working lunches and missions in motion. Should you want further information about a specific club, please contact the listed advisor.

Also this week, Sixth Graders submitted their registration for our annual "Spirit of Unitas" trip. Seventh and Eighth Graders travel in the Spring; we are hosting a trip information meeting for parents on Wednesday, October 8 at 2:30 p.m. in the Learning Commons.

Yesterday, you received communication from your homeroom teachers regarding our first Conference Day, set for Friday, September 19. This is an excellent opportunity for the student, parent, and teacher to discuss goals, review expectations, and develop the Personal Learning Plan. In addition to our three scheduled conference days during the year, your team of teachers is available to meet with you at any time. Just email your homeroom teacher to schedule. Please review our conference protocols here.

Upcoming Dates:

08 - Meritas Games Assembly

09 - Eighth Grade In-House STEM Field Trip

11 - WPVA Boosterthon Color Run (P.E. uniform!)
