HIGH SCHOOL
Now that we are quickly approaching exams, some of our students faster than others, it is a good time to focus on how to start preparing now for them. Here are a few tips to start the exam review process so that they can come out of the exams with the grades they desire:
Be present everyday from this point until the exam. There is much more information that the students gain from being in class, than when they are copying notes from a missed discussion.
Students should start asking questions that they have been unsure about over the course of this quarter. Shoring up their understanding will help to create opportunities for deeper understanding.
Organize all notes, review discussions, and explore old tests. Doing so will help the students to see what to do next and provide a preview about what the final exam will hold.
Students should start reviewing notes and making their own study guides now. If they review early, they can start to categorize their study materials into two sections: material they know, and material they need additional help understanding.
As we get closer to the end of the quarter and exams, please have your children continue to reach out to their teachers when they need support. The teachers are willing and ready to help the students whenever they are asked.
Have a great weekend!

Touchpoints Great Contributions
Recently WPS Second, Third and Fourth graders wrapped up their Touchpoints Great Contributions for the year. Second grade's focus on biodiversity led them to investigate endangered species native to Florida. For their "Great Contribution," they decided to adopt a manatee since it is one of the most symbolic marine animals in our state, but also the most endangered, due to habitat loss, chemical pollution, and boat collisions. Last week the second graders held a bake sale to raise funds to adopt and to support a manatee. They are pleased to announce that they raised $550, which allows each class to adopt one manatee. Their donation will include food and care for one entire year.
On Tuesday, Third grade brought learning to life as they proudly performed, The Rumpus in the Rainforest, for audiences of schoolmates and parents. The Third graders raised $394 to purchase a portion of the Amazon rainforest, preserving the land so the Rumpus can continue!
As their Great Contribution to Touchpoints, Fourth Grade students wrote letters to various companies requesting that they consider adding a warning label to their products if they used Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOS) in their food. They recently mailed out these letters and are hoping to hear back from these manufacturers soon.
Bunnies, Chicks, and Carrots!
Spring is all around! PK, Kindergarten and First grade recently participated in their annual egg hunts and First grade is eagerly awaiting the arrival of their chicks in Mrs. Matthews' class. They have learned about the growth and development of their chicks as they track their progress in the classroom incubator. In the spirit of spring, Issabela Malherbe enjoyed sharing a carrot she grew in her very own garden with Mrs. Pattison's PK4 class.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
"Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best." We are clearly not resting...our travelers have returned, and we're back into total focus and action in the Middle School!
Thank you to the Sixth graders for hosting the Cultural Festival - what an impressive presentation of your learning! This program offered valuable lessons: we live in a global society, one that has changed due to advances in technology and governance. Thus, there is absolutely an emerging world community. "We ought to think that we are one of the leaves of a tree, and the tree is all humanity. We cannot live without the others, without the tree." Pablo Casals
Speaking of trees, our Seventh grade environmental ambassadors celebrated the environment this week with an "Earth Day" field trip, viewing the Disney Nature film, Bears, and visiting the rooftop garden at Green Sky Growers in Winter Garden.
Duke State Recognition
Last week, we recognized our Seventh grade students who participated in the Duke TIP SAT testing and received state-level recognition. Please congratulate Andrew Hunter, as he too was one of the few students nationwide to achieve this awesome recognition.
Tomorrow, we welcome some of you to our campus to assist with Life Lessons: A Day of Career Exploration. This program exposes students to the world of work, allowing them some discovery time about their future.
With just a month remaining of the school year, we must look ahead to 2014-2015. You should have received this information via email earlier this week. Please peruse the Middle School Program Guide and Course Overviews, and then make your selections on the provided Course Selection forms for Sixth, Seventh or Eighth grade. You are welcome to come to the office, send an email, or give us a call if you have questions! Also, your homeroom teacher will assist you in the registration process during Conference Day.

Expectations are very high again for next year where we look to improve upon our impressive finishes.
