Reenrollment Deadline

wps logo Re-enroll Before February 7

Dear WPS Parents and Guardians,

Windermere Preparatory School's Faculty and Administration are pleased to announce that Reenrollment Agreements for the 2014-2015 School Year were mailed and, by now, you should have received your Reenrollment package.  Additionally, for your convenience, we have loaded your child's 2014-15 Reenrollment package to Skyward.  You can access the 2014-15 Contract by clicking on the "Portfolio" link on the left side of your Family Access page in Skyward.  Once you access the Portfolio section, you will be able to click "View" on the 2014-15 Contract line to open the Tuition Schedule, as well as the 2014-15 Terms & Conditions.

Last year, WPS experienced unprecedented early reenrollments, with class sections filling and closing out at several grades at record pace. We achieved an 89% reenrollment rate for this school year. Attendance at the November 10th Prospective New Students Open House was, by far, the largest in the history of our school. Since that time, the pace of admission inquiries has been greater than heretofore experienced. I expect that trend to continue through the spring, strengthened by the reputational growth of our school and the student outcomes that are being achieved.

Please review the Terms and Conditions and complete the Tuition Schedule. The completed Tuition Schedule, along with the required deposit, is due to the Admission Office by Friday February 7.  If you have any questions regarding the upcoming school year, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you!

HIGH SCHOOL

Achievements run high and reach far in the High School! On Monday, we celebrated our students, faculty, and staff through the 2014 State of the School program. In this special time with our High School community and the Eighth grade students and faculty, we recounted the vast accomplishments and excellent acts of service that took place over the last 365 days. Dr. Marcy provided us all with a challenge to reach our own 212 degrees regarding effort and perseverance. Ask your children about the powerful message!

During this time, our Top 10 academic performers for the class of 2014 were named: Huda Awan, Rapolas Binkys, Nafisa Chaudry, Patrick Hansen, Avina Harry, Serena Holton, Tughral Khan, Samantha Mayfield, Reynaldo Rivera, and Alicia Stoebenau. Special congratulations to Serena Holton for being named Valedictorian and Samantha Mayfield for being named the Salutatorian. We cannot wait to hear the final addresses that these ladies will give to our students during the graduation ceremony.

LOWER SCHOOL

Windermere Preparatory School is proud to partner with the American Heart Association to help kids with special hearts! Last year, we raised more than $11,000 through the efforts of our students! Our kickoff assembly will be held on Monday, February 3, with the program concluding with the Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart events on Friday, February 21.

Students in Pre-K through fifth grade will participate in Jump Rope for Heart, which consists of fun and exciting exercise stations. Students in sixth through eighth grades will tackle Hoops for Heart, which will take place during P.E. classes. During the next few weeks, WPS students will learn how their hearts work, and how to take care of them through physical activity and nutrition. They will also learn about children who have been affected by cardiovascular disease and how they can help them, all the while having fun and feeling good by helping others.

Please, sign up your child to join our American Heart Association School Team online! Visit www.heart.org/jump (Lower School) or www.heart.org/hoops (Middle School) and click on 'New Students Sign Up Here' to get started on your online campaign. Information Packets will go home on Monday, February 3.

The American Heart Association's Mission: To build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

WPS - together we are saving lives!

OLSAT Test

This week students in grades three through eight were administered the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT). This is a test of abstract thinking and reasoning ability. The results will be available later this spring and we will share them with parents during the May conference.

Health Tip

It is typical this time of year to have an outbreak of head lice in schools. There is no need to panic over head lice as it causes no known health risks. Please be sure to check your child's head on a regular basis and report any findings to the school nurse. Click for details.

It is hard to believe we are entering the month of February already! Our students have been very busy recently with field trips, performances and class projects. We are thrilled with their progress, and look forward to similar events this month.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Last week's field trip to Disney for the YES (Youth Education Series) programs certainly put the 4 C's into practice. Students were immersed in creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication on Friday as they participated in these unique programs, with immediate learning connections to their classroom lessons. These connections will continue to be applied in future lessons and projects. Experiential learning such as the Disney's Youth Education Series is instrumental in adolescent development, and also a tenet of our Middle School Program.

Meritas Florida Music Festival

Our WPS Fifth grade band, chorus and strings students joined forces with our neighbors, Lake Mary Prep and North Broward Prep, for music clinics and performances throughout the day last Friday. The event was hosted by Windermere Prep. All of the 140 students participating in the experience were challenged musically to learn and prepare music for an afternoon concert for parents, teachers and friends. It was a wonderful day for our Meritas young musicians!

The W Factor

WPS definitely has talent!  More than 50 students, staff and parents auditioned for the first annual WPS talent show with the hopes of being selected to perform on the live show and take home the title of winning the "W-FACTOR."  Kudos to our judges: Stephanie Crane from the lower school, Donna Reynolds from Middle School, Tim Brown from the High School, as well as film and television actress, Amanda Powell (wife of H.S. Assistant director Greg Pesicek), former Prima Ballerina and WPS parent, Deborah MacKenzie, Semi-Professional singer and present WPS student, Casey Conroy, and alumni film student and actor, Max Rodegra.  Following six hours of amazing performances, the judges unanimously selected their top 13 acts - three from each division and four "wild cards."

Come out to enjoy and vote at the live shows on Wednesday February 26 in the Learning Commons. It will be turned into a café theatre for two amazing shows where the audience will decide who puts the most WOW into their performance and deserves the prestigious title of W-FACTOR winner! Tickets go on sale February 15th with limited seating. Save the date and support the WPS Fine Arts!

Wishing you a wonderful Winter Break! WPS eNews will return on January 10.
