Millennial Eyewear Wish List |
Marketing to a Vital Demographic |
A primary focus for today's marketers centers around how to reach Millennials, that elusive demographic born between 1981 and 1996. In a recent survey, Millennials were asked what matters most to them when choosing eyewear. These tech-savvy young adults who are clearly independent thinkers (see graphic below) simply want a good look at a good price. And if their local ECP can't meet their needs, they'll probably turn to an online or big box retailer. Here's the good news: Modern Optical can help ECPs retain these valuable consumers with three distinct eyewear collections that are spot on.
Fashiontabulous, Modz and URock each offer on-trend designs at affordable price points that speak directly to this demographic. Combined with Millennial's affinity for eyewear (there's absolutely no stigma to wearing glasses with this generation) and the growing appeal of colored lenses and computer eyewear, it's quite apparent that Millennials are a population you want to embrace.
According to The Vision Council, computer eyewear represents the largest growth opportunity in optometry. We have all heard about the health risks associated digital eye strain. Seemingly tethered to their cell phones, Millennials are by far the most screen-obsessed generation with 40% spending at least nine hours a day using digital devices. Younger kids are on a similar path with 24% spending at least three hours a day staring at a screen.
Because computer eyewear uses specialty lenses (AR combined with blue light-blocking capabilities), it can quickly turn expensive, pricing Millennials out of the market. However, with Fashiontabulous, Modz, or URock frames, the affordability quotient helps to offset the cost of specialty lenses making computer eyewear a more palatable option. Similarly, colored lenses are increasing popular with Millennials. Again, an affordable frame helps make that second pair of glasses a viable option. Offering frame and lens packages can also help market specialty eyewear.
Ask your Modern Optical Sales Rep about using Fashiontabulous, Modz, and URock to market your practice to Millennials. Embracing this highly sought after demographic is a vital component to securing your future. If you aren't meeting their needs, they know where else to go, and it's probably not to another independent ECP.

Matching Eyewear with Face Shapes
|
|
|
Printable Guidelines for Your Practice |
| What's Your Face's Shape? |
Helping a patient select the best eyewear requires a fundamental understanding of shapes. Is the face you're fitting more round, square, or oval, for example? If you can assess a patient's face shape, you can streamline the frame selection process by utilizing the rule of opposites. Perhaps counterintuitive, the best frame shape in NOT the same shape as one's face. An opposing shape is actually the most complimentary. Eyecessorize, The Vision Council's fashion voice, published an excellent 2-page guide called "Face Shapes". When printed, this quick reference piece may serve as an interactive educational tool for patients and staff alike.
