Editor's Message ~ A Tribute to Buzzy Gedro
|

Happy May to all Yorkie Fans and Friends!
I am so pleased and grateful to report that Leiko and Nicholas received excellent results from their recent wellness examinations. What blessings. I do not take it for granted, and somehow, I have a sense that if you are reading this newsletter, that you value life, health, and wellness as much as we do. I feel so good when I wake up and look out my back door, which faces east, to see the sun rise from this central New York vantage point. Every day presents a new opportunity to grow, to love, to expand and to contribute. I have been thinking a lot about my current household configuration. I have historically had three dogs; and since Buzzy's passing in April of 2014, I have kept it to my two little angels. I think that this is good for now. One of the things I love most about life is that it presents new opportunities for re-thinking and re-working one's game plan.
When I first got Max Gedro-the original Gedro Yorkie-I was smitten from the first sight. Literally. I found him to be a gorgeous creature, both inside and out. Shortly after bonding with him, though, I felt that I wanted him to have a brother. So, I contacted the breeder and asked if she had puppies. Sure enough, Max's mother had another litter. I went over on a Wednesday night- one exit on I-20 short of the Alabama line (I was living in Atlanta at the time), and picked out the little dude who was off in a corner doing his own thing. The rest is history. Buzzy Gedro was a character. He was his own dog. He was not show quality in the material sense of the word; but he had an unmistakable charm and strut that was unparalleled. He lived to be almost 16, and as I have written before, he chose his time to leave his body. He lived long and well. And I love him forever.
Life, health, joy, wellness, and then transition. I have come to accept the wheel of life, and appreciate all of the love in this world. There is so much.
Speaking of love, I am excited about our love-fest, a/k/a the YTNR Friends and Family weekend.
Sending you positive thoughts for love, joy, wellness, and lots of Yorkie kisses for May 2016.
Blessings,
Julie, Leiko and Nicholas

UPDATE ON PEANUT
It has been 3 weeks since Peanut has had his Liver Shunt surgery. He has come a long way and now he is running in the yard chasing the chickens. Peanut is staying with our President MaryElizabeth on her farm in Tennessee. We are hoping that he continues to do well. He will have to go back to the University of Tennessee for a 3 month checkup to see how the shunt is doing and if he can be cleared. Please keep him in your prayers, and pray that each day gets better and better for this little peanut.

 Mary-Margaret O'Brien ~ Wow! Mom's Home!!
|
Mom's home from the hospital and things are slowly getting back to normal. On Wednesday she got her pedicure at Miss Cathleen's. It's pretty scary how knarly toes get after two months of neglect. When she said we were going to see Miss Cathleen I got so excited I almost wagged my tail right off. I practically leaped into Cathleen's arms when we got there and as soon as I heard her say "walk" I raced to the door, ready to go.
What a glorious walk I had. First off, I noticed the jasmine bushes and spent a lot of time just taking in their sweet smell. I marked the territory before I moved on. Then I saw the trees on the other side of the street. After ten years of walking the same route I finally noticed the trees and I steered Miss Cathleen across the street and checked them out. Everything looked and smelled so good I didn't want to go back but we take our walks while Mom is soaking her feet and her toes would get all pruny-looking so, reluctantly, I gave in.
Back at the Salon I got my extra-special crystal bowl of water and then Tim, Cathleen's husband, came in with lunch for the two of them from Flame Broiler. He ate his while Cathleen worked on Mom's toes, and then he put sweet-smelling lotion on my tummy and paws. Usually Cathleen does that but today was special. He gives great tummy rubs. One of Miss Cathleen's other clients also stopped by and started giving me a back rub and a tummy rub. I could have stayed all day but humans have their own agenda.
While Mom was drying, Cathleen had her lunch and shared with me. I got pieces of chicken. She ate the veggies - carrots, cabbage and other green stuff. The chicken was magnificent. I will definitely ask to go to Flame Broiler if anyone wants to know what I like.
It's so good to be home again.
Love,

Hello my name is Andy, and I'm a 2 year old male Yorkshire Terrier. My family adopted me 2 years ago from Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue. My favorite treats are Blue Buffalo training treats. I also like people food - chicken, ham, and most vegetables. Sometimes I get a little piece of peanut butter toast, pasta, or pizza crust. Yummy!! My best tricks are sitting and playing fetch. I love all my toys, but if I had to pick a few favorites they would probably be my rubber chicken, my green alligator, and my orange balls. My favorite pastime activities are playing with toys and going for walks. My favorite places to be scratched are behind my ears and on my belly. My most memorable moment is when I first looked into my mommy's eyes. When I was eleven weeks old, I was dropped off at the pound because I was having seizures. Fortunately my mommy, who works for Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue, came and rescued me! I was hours from being euthanized and Mommy picked me up and looked me right in the eye. I knew I was going to be okay. I never had another seizure and grew from a sickly 1.5 pound puppy to a very healthy 6.5 pound boy. My mommy and daddy were fostering me, but then decided to adopt me. I am a very lucky boy! I think they are lucky too!! One fun fact that everyone should know about me is that I starred in a musical last spring at Mommy's school. I played the role of Bruiser in "Legally Blond." I loved all the attention and playing with all the kids! My alligator toy was a gift from one of the actresses, so it is a very special toy! I helped Mommy and Daddy foster two puppies this summer. I loved playing with them but am glad they got adopted and I am now an only child again! I am an unofficial therapy dog. My grandma lives at Belmont Village. I enjoy visiting her and being passed around to all the employees and the elderly people who live there.
Thank You for opening your hearts and homes for these
precious rescues and making their dreams come true!

"Great Yorkie Times! I miss so much not having a yorkie but YT helps to fill in that vacant spot. Toni"
"Thank you Mary Elizabeth for the great newsletter, every single time. Yvonne"

"The beautiful bright pictures in this months newsletter are amazing. The stories of all the babies keeps one reading without even taking a break as all were so very interesting. Thanks for all that contribute to this newsletter. A lot of work goes into each one every month and I am always looking forward to them. Sad some of our little buddies have passed on. Great news new homes for the babies have been found that have exceptional loving parents for these furbies. A smile from a human holding their new furbie tells it all. Happy April to all and prayers for those having a rough time of it both human and furbies. Helen "

"I loved the April Yorkie Times! Mary-Margaret's column is excellent. The in memoriam section
is sad but I like how you honor the pups. And the forever homes is the cherry on top! Well done to the Yorkie Times team! Karin"

"This month's Yorkie Times was so wonderful. Although I was sorry to see the loss of so many furbabies, the number of adoptions was so heartening.
Mary Margaret continues to entertain with her witty observations.
Thanks to all who made this issue possible. Cathy"

Neeko's Joke ;o)

~ Three pastors were in a boat together one day fishing.
One of the pastors said "We never get to let our hair down. Let's each tell the area that we struggle in the most. Our greatest sin, so we can pray for each other."
The first pastor said "I hate to admit this, but I have a problem with gambling. Sometimes I sneak out at night, and gamble."
The second pastor said "I am ashamed to admit this, but I have a problem with cheating. I hardly ever pay my taxes."
The third pastor sat there silently. They waited and waited. He wouldn't budge.
They said "We're not leaving until you tell us your greatest sin."
He said "Alright, my greatest sin is with gossip and I can't wait to get off this boat." ~
My Bro, LeoT. is 17 years young now and at this point in his life, he tells it like it is. He still runs around like a two year old every now and then. Our holistic Vet sure keeps him going and we are all so very grateful for that.
My skin baby sister, Faith was Baptized last month. My Pawrents were so happy that on her Big Day she didn't show off her opera singing voice. However, she did express herself when the Reverend anointed her. BOL
Love to all,
Neeko ♥
