Watch and Learn

Although I suspect that every Yorkie owner might have a bit of a bias about their own dog, I do think that Leaky is an extraordinary character. He came into rescue because of purported behavioral issues and indeed he is a handful. But he is an interesting study. He modulates the noise around him because he likes quiet and calm. For example, if I put on music when we are sitting on the sofa, or resting on the bed, Leaky jumps off and goes underneath somewhere so that he can have quiet and a minimal amount of stimulation. He reacts poorly to being approached by strangers, particularly men. However, if a stranger crouches down and lets Leaky come to him or her, then that person is likely to make a new friend or fan with him. Leaky is a discerning kind of guy. At any opportunity to sit, stand or lay with the sun shining on him, he takes it.
During this time of transitional weather, Leaky is a study in appreciating the sun, shielding himself from the rain, frolicking with his brother Nick, and waiting for the season that precedes his favorite season (Summer!). I remember falling in love with him the day he came into my home, and I cannot imagine my life without him.

On behalf of Nick, Leaky, me, and the entire Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue board of directors, I would like to wish you a lovely April.

Mary-Margaret O'Brien ~ Wow!  What a month!

Last March 3rd, my mom went in for a "little surgery" after having a funky mammogram and an even funkier needle biopsy.  You know my mom, right?  She planned on going into surgery, requested a local anesthetic instead of a general and figured she'd be up and back working in a couple of days.

Yeah....and God said "Hah!".  On the 4th she started running a fever and ended up in ER.  On the 5th she was admitted to Hospital #2, on the 6th the good surgeon Dr. Dada drained a lot of fluid from her and put her on heavy duty antibiotics.  On the 9th she was moved from #2 to #3 (a skilled nursing facility) and on 3/20 she was still there.  Meanwhile, I am staying with my Sister Colleen and my Cousin Brodie.  We are having the best time running, playing, and chasing each other.

This #3 place says "Bring your dogs!" so I get to visit whenever I want.  Dogs also work here.  There's a Golden in payroll, a St Bernard in Business Services, a couple of poodles patrol the hallways and there are some pups in Physical Therapy.  There are Maltese and Shih Tzu and everything else you could imagine.  Dogs are very patient, loving and caring and I think we make better nurses than some humans.   It's unfortunate that we don't have thumbs or we could do so much more.

Here are some pictures of some friends me and Mom have made here.  My and Cousin Brodie visited today and Miss Blossom (Shih Tzu) has a major crush on him.   I'll keep you posted.

PS - I've never been that into toys but there's a ball at Cousin Brodie's that I really enjoy playing with.  Brodie is pretty good about sharing but he never was one to pick up after himself.  Now that I'm there, when I'm done playing with his stuff, he picks it up and puts it back into his toy box.  Positive stuff happening.

Love, Mary-Margaret

In Loving Memory

I would like to thank everyone for their kind words, thoughts and prayers in my loss of Skylar.
Many of you met him through the years but thought others might like to see what a handsome little boy he was. He could not have been loved more and I am glad I had 11 years with my angel.
I met him at a Yorkie Ball in Nashville and I knew he was for me. Thankfully in the end I was the lucky person who adopted him. RIP my sweet Skylar... you are missed.
Love,
Betty

I adopted my beloved Archie ( formerly named Auggie) from you guys in 2010. He was actually my first foster and I failed miserable at it so I could not foster anymore of I would have adopted them all. He was the joy of my life. He got really sick in December and passed away. I was devastated. He had his own FB page and Instagram. I was and still heartbroken.

Hi, my name is Debbie Head. I was unable to find a format on your website in which to tell you that I am so grateful to have had Xavier, better known as XMan, in my life, heart and soul since 2006 when I rescued him from your amazing organization.

XMan was diagnosed with an inoperable adrenal tumor in September 2015. However, that did not slow him down at all. He continued to give his love, Yorkie attitude and immense presence to all around him until last Thursday, March 3rd 2016. He made it to the Rainbow Bridge and ultimately heaven.

I salute you and honor you for the incredible work that you do on behalf of all the innocent souls that come to you and thank you for bringing Xavier into my life. Ironically he rescued me. The XMan is forever unforgettable!

With Gratitude,

Debbie

"It is eerily terrifying that there is no sound when a heart breaks. Car accidents end with a bang, falling ends with a thud, even writing makes the scratching sound of pencil against paper. But the sound of a heart breaking is completely silent. Almost as though no one, not even the universe itself could create a sound for such devastation. Almost as though silence is the only way the universe could pay its respect to the sound of a heart falling apart."- Nikita Gill, The Sound of Heartbreak

Happy Endings

This is Pressley's new Fur-Ever family!!!
On the left is Jason who is legally blind and very charming. Pressley will fill a very important role of cuddle buddy!
On the right is the person who sought out Pressley for himself, James. Pressley will be in good hands and very spoiled.

"Thanks for another great issue of Yorkie Times!

I appreciate all the work that goes into the production and it was nice to put faces with names of the board members and officers.

Mary-Margaret-you look aDOGable in your pink bow and we hope your fence is fixed soon. Meanwhile, you are a natural leader, so you can keep everyone in line!

NEEKO-we always love your jokes and the photos of your fab family!

Thanks again for rescuing me and making me a furever part of the YTNR family.

Love and puppy kisses to you all!

Sophie Rose (JAZZ and the Thompson Clan)

P.S. Hoping to see you all in Nashville if we can come. I decided to go ahead and pack!"

"Great pictures, super articles about the babies, love all the write-ups as to how long some human individuals have been in our group or if managing certain areas of our group, or adopting little ones. Of course, I love the personal messages from our  tiny little ones too and their pictures. Love the pictures of our members and their smiling faces whether it be about what they have contributed in time to our group, whether they have recently adopted a little precious baby from far off or wherever it be. What would we do without Delta airlines!!  Anyhow it looks as if a lot of time goes into our group from our President, officers too, and all these beautiful individuals that communicate with us weekly or those who contribute with their hearts and $ too to keep our group going from way back years wise, wow. I did not know MaryElizabeth had been keeping us all together so many years. Thank you, MaryElizabeth, for every  minute of the years you have given of yourself so unselfishly seeing this group goes on happily communicating with each other in caring for our babies."

Neeko's Joke ;o)

~ A guy finds a sheep wandering in his neighborhood and takes it to the police station. The desk sergeant says, "Why don't you just take it to the zoo?"
The next day, the sergeant spots the same guy walking down the street with the sheep. "I thought I told you to take that sheep to the zoo," the sergeant says.
"I know what you told me," the guy responds. "Yesterday I took him to the zoo. Today I'm taking him to the movies." ~
