Here is something I have not quite figured out yet. Perhaps I just won't figure it out. I don't know when it is time to upgrade a piece of technology equipment. I suppose my "formula" is that when a device becomes so slow that it impairs my work functioning, that I relent and upgrade. I have conditioned myself, though, to use things for as long as possible. I appreciate something that is well made and durable. I cook (well, let's use the term loosely) in cast iron cookware that is likely some 40+ years old. Most of the furniture in my cottage is hand me down from somewhere. I like vintage. I like well made. I like durable and classic. I have said this before, I realize. Many of my relationships in YTNR stand the test of time. I am excited to make new friends too, as I said in last month's column.
Our school had its annual academic conference last week and so I was in Saratoga. I took Nicholas and Leiko; Saratoga is very dog-friendly. There are even signs on the doors of shops that say "dog-friendly downtown Saratoga." We stayed at the Saratoga Downtowner, which is dog-friendly. I recommend it if you are in the Saratoga area and need a quirky, funky, place to stay with your dogs.
This month's column is dedicated to the boyz who started the whole Gedro-Yorkie thing: Max and Buzz. Here they are, sitting on a bale of hay at a horse farm in north Georgia. Many moons ago.
The bonds of love are durable and timeless.
Love and blessings,
Julie, Nicholas and Leiko

Update on our precious Safari
She is doing better. We work on strengthening exercises every day for her legs and she is still on the Clavamox for her urinary tract infection.
I am getting her back to the laser treatments as well.

In Loving Memory

It is with sad news that we report that "Tucker" our "Yorkie Rescue of the Year" has passed over to the Rainbow Bridge.
Tucker was a very special needs boy, he was considered unadoptable by the shelter. However, YTNR saw something different and under our care Tucker prospered.
He was petted, loved and he grew to crave the attention. He would bark and howl when he felt alone; trying to make up for the time that he was ignored, unloved and neglected. Holding him and cuddling him were the only way to make him feel secure that he was not alone again. He yearned for the loving touch of a human. A touch he got plenty of while being fostered. YTNR could not bring back his hearing or his sight, but they gave him back his dignity.
Not long after putting this little boy on the website for adoption, an application came in for him. The couple that was interested in him was specifically looking for a senior dog with special needs. Well, when it came to special needs, he had many! At 12 years old, this dog couldn't see, couldn't hear, didn't have any teeth and was incontinent! That didn't deter Louisa and her husband. They adopted him and made him a part of their family. They didn't give up on him when he became needy and they didn't turn him away because he has to wear diapers that need changing. He sleeps well at night, even though he naps most days. He has his favorite spot in front of the fireplace with a blanket and toy. Teeth or not, he can really 'chew' on a rawhide.
He was adopted. He is loved. His name is Tucker.
And now, we can say, run free, be happy, RIP Tucker, you will be missed.
My little boy Jack crossed the rainbow bridge. I adopted him in April 2007, and he's been a bundle of joy ever since. Feisty and fierce, but afraid of flies, loving and sweet, but would look you in the eye and pee on your stuff if he was mad. He could always find a morsel of food in the car, open your groceries, drag out and "taste" your food, chew through the dog food cover on a trip, or hide out and scare you. Despite it all, he was cute as a button. He rode high on one's shoulders - loved the view and loved life! Everybody who came to look at a foster loved him too, and wanted to adopt him, but I got to be his lucky mommy.
Thanks to my sweet little boy for all the lovely memories. Love you always and miss you, Jackie.
May you rest in peace. From mommy, daddy and all your brothers and sisters.
I'm heartbroken. Unfortunately, Jax has reached his end. We just spoke with Dr and his liver levels are too toxic normal being 13 and he is at 240. We need to let him go...
♥ Thank you for giving our precious rescues a wonderful forever home ♥
May you have Peace and Comfort at this difficult time.

Mary-Margaret O'Brien ~ Unexpected Visits
|
Oh, I just LOVE having company even when it's unexpected. Every morning first thing, my mom opens the slider and I go out and inspect my yard. The pups next door run over to the hole in the fence and bark "Good Morning, Mary-Margaret!" and I bark "Good Morning!" right back. Then I go on a sniff-a-thon, checking out the trees, fence and slope. When I'm satisfied all is as it should be I go back into the house, hop on the back of the recliner and watch TV. Today we got a big surprise. Mom left the slider open so I can come and go as I please. All of a sudden we hear a really big, deep "woof" at the door. I hop down, respond "arf", and go outside to check things out. Well, hello there! There's my neighbor, a big brown and black lady German Shepherd, standing right there waiting for me. I hop out and we start wagging at each other.
Mom (as usual, being somewhat over protective) starts hollering "Stop...Mary-Margaret, you get back here!". Really? (I say). This is my friend from next door and we're just visiting. The "hole" now becomes an opening if she moves the fence boards to the side. Well, well, well! (I say). The big dog is really friendly and walks over to the fence. Mom holds the boards to one side and my friend skootches back through to her own yard. The fence is maneuvered back into place and it's going to be difficult for my friend to come over again, but we'll figure it out. Meanwhile, I am very flattered to have my friends come over to my house to play. It's been pretty quiet since the feral cats moved and the people on the corner fixed their fence so their pup, Candy, couldn't get out and come visit. She used to walk right into my house and help herself to my kibble. We'd just let her nibble, then Mom would pluck the twigs and leaves out of her hair, and then we'd drive her home. That's Candy below.
P.S. My friend came over again and just hung out in the backyard with me. We both laid in the grass and quietly enjoyed the afternoon together. Then my mom came and got me and my friend pushed the board aside and went home. A little later, she came back and this time my mom put her investigative talents to work. She tracked down the owner of the house, found his unlisted phone number and told him about the fence. He said the house was rented to a military family but that he'd ask them to call. About a half hour ago they called and then came over. Mom said that if they were looking for their dog that she was in my backyard. They were totally shocked that their dog had a life they didn't know about. Well, surprise, folks. Us pups DO have friends, feelings, activities and lives you don't know about. My friend is named Lexi and her sister (who stayed home) is named LuLu. Their dad, Jamie, got his tools and fixed the fence. DarnDarnDarn. But he left enough of a crack we can still rub noses together when we feel like it.
Have a happy Thanksgiving and always be thankful for your friends, especially the ones that pay surprise visits.

Neeko's Joke ;o)
|
~ A man and a boy have been sitting out on a lake all day long ice fishing. The man has been having no luck at all while the boy has been pulling fish after fish out of his hole in the ice. The man finally leans over and asks the kid what his secret is.
"mmmmm mmm mm mmm mmmm mmm mmm," is the reply. "I'm sorry, what did you say?" "mmmmm mmm mm mmm mmmm mmm mmm," the kid repeats. "I'm sorry, I still didn't understand you." The boy spits something into his hand and says very clearly, "You've got to keep your worms warm!" ~
Update on our Baby Faith ♥
Faith is now 4-1/2 months old and measured in at 24" and 14 lbs. 3 oz. at her 4 month checkup. She has picked up quite a bit of strength in the past month and can now roll over from her stomach onto her back. That kid will be crawling before you know it. My Bro Ray would love to be on her feeding schedule which is every 3 to 4 hours. Bro LeoT. concluded that we should buy stock in Pampers :o)))
Sis Aida does not understand why Faith would not throw her toys to be fetched and Meee is just keeping it cool so chaos doesn't move in.
Love to all,
Neeko :o)
