Editor's Message ~ Throwback Summer
|

Beauty in So Many Forms ~ 2012 As if Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue were not amazing enough, how about the new format and razzle dazzle of this Newsletter? From what I understand, we have a readership that approaches 2,000 regular subscribers which is, by itself, fantastic. The talents of Amalia Spaulding have been enlisted to consult on the format and the presentation and the results, I think, show for themselves. Amalia, thank you so very much for what you are doing for us. It is humbling and delightful for me to be associated with this publication, and of course, with our organization. I am a 'stick with it" kind of gal, and my association with YTNR is around 13 years old now. I measure it not only by subtracting the current year by a year somewhere in the late nineties, but also, by Buzzy's age. Buzz was 'born into" YTNR, and he understands his privileged position in this world. Although I think that at times he would prefer to be an only dog, he shares his abundance freely with his adopted siblings (usually, as any who knows me, brothers...I do not know why, but tough guys seem to show up at my house). We moved in to a new (although it is not new by any stretch of the imagination, having been constructed in 1935) California Bungalow and all three Gedro boyz are loving it. It has a delightful four season front porch, and a luscious back yard that Buzz, Nick and Leaky are enjoying to no end. As I write these thoughts, I am surrounded by the magnificent view of the hills of northern Portugal and the lushness of late Spring gardens and walkways. I have not seen any Yorkies, but I have heard the chatter of little doggies as I have strolled around town this afternoon. I suppose that the unifying theme of this little message is beauty in all of its forms. Beauty in our relationships. Beauty in the robustness of the readership, and in the aesthetics, of the Newsletter. Beauty in a Yorkshire Terrier. Beauty in the souls of the people who do the work of rescue, and those who adopt I wish you a month of beauty.

Happy Endings...
|
Our own Nancy Nicolin has
adopted another YTNR Rescue. Braylee is a special boy! Nancy was touched by his story and contacted us for more information on Braylee. Some of you may remember when Nancy adopted Claire 2 years ago.
Nancy said Braylee is ignoring Claire but Pam the neighbor came over with Precious the poodle and Braylee was in heaven. He LOVES Precious so Nancy is planning to walk Braylee with Precious. The Poodle spends a lot of time at Nancy's. Braylee has hit the lottery.

Here is a picture of Coco with her new family.
Coco was adopted by Lisa & David She joins her new brother, Cooper, who was adopted from YTNR last December. Coco is wearing a cone because she had a mass surgically removed from her leg.

Lynn and Mario adopted Hesse and Kirby. They are lovely people.

Thank You for opening your hearts and homes for these precious rescues and making their dreams come true!

The Truth about getting Older
I'll be TEN years old next month. Yup. On September 19th, I'll be TEN. What that means to me is more trips to the doctor's office, not that I mind seeing my very good friends Nicole, Dr. Amy or Dr. V (depending on where I go) and the rest of my pals.
What I don't like is having my teeth cleaned or being knocked out and having little lumpies removed. Last month I came home all stitched up in blue and Mom said I looked like The Patchwork Girl from Oz. I had a little fatty lump bump removed from my chest, too. I'm ok. Nothing to worry about. Just getting older is what my doctor said.
Getting older means getting comfy in your skin and knowing what makes people happy. I'm the receptionist and VP of Public Relations for Rancho Attorney Service. My job is to make our clients feel at home. I greet them at the door and show them where to sit down. If they're needing some loving, I give them kisses and flip over so they can rub my belly. That makes people relax for some reason. If they get tearful, I hop into their lap and lick their tears away, too.
I've learned that I shouldn't eat anything unless my mom says so. Some things make us pups sick. Personally, I don't like the biscuit type of treat. I love freeze dried chicken or liver, though. I'll do just about anything for those. If we have clients come in around my lunch time, I pick up my bowl of Core Wellness low fat kibble and bring it to them for sharing. So far, I haven't had any takers, but I try. If one of my doggie friends comes by I let them eat what they want from my bowl. I'm a big believer in "mi casa su casa" and I'm glad to make them feel at home.
When I was a baby I used to open all the packages that came to our office. There wasn't anything I couldn't open. Then I got tired of that and I let other people open them for the past few years. A couple of weeks ago a package came from my Auntie Leslie. I KNEW it was for me somehow. I snatched it away from Mom and started nibbling and tearing at it. Yup. I was right. It was a Sherpa slipper with a squeaky inside. I started trying to shred it and ended up with cotton-like tufts stuck to my tongue. Mom "de-fuzzed" me and set the slipper aside for later. I was so excited I forgot myself. I'm generally not a shredder by nature. Old age, maybe?
When someone wants to take me on a walk, I ask my mom for permission now. When I was younger I'd just dash out the door. Now I stop and wait for Mom to say "OK, you can go!". Then I go and let her put on my leash before walking away. She really appreciates my courtesy.
The photo is of me giving comfort to a honeymooning couple from Nazareth. My new friend Rula was tired and sobbing so I went to her and snuggled up the whole way to Nashville last year. We are now friends on Facebook. Being kind and thoughtful to others brings you friends from around the world.
Days go by faster but the quality of those days is ten times what it was ten years ago. I'm happiest when I've made others happy. Giving is living.

Neeko's Joke ;o)
|
~ Kurt was going out with a nice girl and finally popped the question. "Will you marry me, darling?" he asked. Lisa smiled coyly and said: "Yes, if you'll buy me a mink." Kurt thought for a moment and then replied: "Okay, it's a deal, on one condition." "What is that?" Lisa asked. "You'll have to clean the cage!" Kurt replied. ~
Meee turned six last month! LOVE my life ♥
Love to all,
Neeko :o)
