Love and Only Love
It has been an eventful Spring and Summer for me. I have traveled to Aix en Provence, France; Cork, Ireland, Saratoga Springs, New York, Great Falls, Virginia, and the Adirondacks of New York. I don't want to admit this but I am slightly wilted. I also feel humble and grateful for all of the beautiful people I am privileged to know and love. This column is dedicated to my Mother, Barbara Taylor Gedro, who passed 19 years ago this summer. My Mother gave me my love of music, animals, laughter, and the beach. She had a difficult life on this earth, and she was a private person. To quote a phrase from an old commercial, she "never let you see her sweat." I am not sure that those who know me would characterize me in that same way, and I am comfortable with it. She passed the year before I became involved in Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue.
I think she would be tickled to know of my involvement. It is a double bonus that YTNR has a strong music connection, with our "First Gentleman" of YTNR (borrowing from the U.S. Presidential trope of the First Lady) being the renown guitarist Dan Dugmore. If only my mother knew how much joy I have experienced with YTNR. She was, like me, a James Taylor and Linda Rondstadt fan. If only she knew that I have shaken the hands of the man who plays those famous riffs on their songs. She would be ultimately proud to know of the thousands of dogs we have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed.
At her funeral, my siblings and I (in partnership with a mellow Episcopal Priest) customized a mix of music that included "In the Garden," "The Old Rugged Cross," and some Judds and other country artists. Even today, when I hear "Love Can Build a Bridge," I get choked up.
Here are some of its beautiful lyrics (written by Naomi Judd, Paul Overstreet, and John Barlow Jarvis):
I'd gladly walk across the desert
With no shoes upon my feet
To share with you the last bite
Of bread I had to eat
I would swim out to save you
In your sea of broken dreams
When all your hopes are sinkin'
Let me show you what love means
Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time?
Don't you think it's time?
I wish all of my YTNR friends a wonderful Summer.

Tessa |
Tessa came to us from a shelter in very poor condition. We suspect that she was hit by a car as she had 2 pelvic fractures and her femur was broken clean across right at the ball joint. Tessa had her surgery; they removed the ball joint and sanded the femur. She is doing well and recuperating at her foster mom's home. Tessa's surgery was $3000.00.
We greatly appreciate any donations for this sweet innocent furbaby that now has Hope!

Happy Endings...
|
I just wanted to send you these pictures of Anneliese and Mojo. He continues to be such a joy in our lives and you could not have asked for a better match for him. He is such a good boy and very smart. They are both very happy :)
**********
Today my little boys Jesse and Kirby were adopted!
Will miss them, but also happy for them. They are so sweet!
**********
Here is Mickey with his new family. Denise, Kim and Dakota. Denise and Kim are long time supporters of YTNR. Mickey is the 6th lucky Yorkie to join their family.
*********
Dewy has been adopted! He is a funny boy and met two other families before being adopted and wanted nothing to do with them. Then along came the family who adopted him. Dewy was all over this couple, kissing them and playing his little heart out. Guess it is true that the rescues pick their family.
*********

Princess has been adopted by Peggy. She has changed her name to Princess Harriet Houdini. Princess is demanding a Tiara from her foster mom as she is the Princess of Princesses. She is doing very well in her loving forever home.
*********
Leonard whent to his new home recently. He wasn't on the website a week before his new mom and dad fell in love with him. He is really a happy boy now and will be very spoiled.
*********
Thank You for opening your hearts and homes for these
precious rescues and making their dreams come true!

From my mom - I'm a little under the weather from all those surgeries the other day.
|
Those of you who know my dog, Mary-Margaret, also know that she's more of an observer and a student of life than most dogs. She has decided to learn how to drive. We use the drive through at the bank, In-N-Out, McDonalds, etc. and she likes to sit on my lap with her left elbow on the arm rest where the window controls are (sometimes raising and lowering the windows) and her right "hand" on the steering wheel while we are driving through.
Last week there was someone about 5 cars ahead of us that took about 13 minutes to transact their business. People were getting impatient, and I was muttering "Come ON" to no avail. About 10 minutes into the wait Mary-Margaret started glaring at the line of cars in front of us, using unintelligible 4-letter words in Doglish and pounding on the steering wheel with her paws. Witnessing "road rage" in a 10 pound Yorkshire Terrier pretty much broke up the tension for me. That's got to be one for the books - Doggie Road Rage? LOL Only in my world.

Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue is looking for top quality human beings who are interested in being adopted by a Yorkshire Terrier rescue. Qualities we are looking for in potential adoptees are kindness, compassion, gentleness, and patience. Humans must be willing to pamper, love, and spoil a rescue and must be capable of going for walkies, car rides, and giving hugs. Humans must be willing to share their homes, couches, laps, and beds. Featherbeds are optional.
If you feel that you may fit the above qualifications, please go to our website @ www.ytnr.com and fill out an adoption application. If your application is suitable, we will forward it to our rescues for approval and final selection.
Thank You!
With Love, Athena Maria ♥

Neeko's Joke ;o)
|
~ Two babies were sitting in their cribs when one called over to the other: "Are you a little girl or a little boy?" "I don't know," replied the other baby giggling. "What do you mean, you don't know?" asked the first. "I mean I don't know how to tell the difference." "Well, I do," said the first baby chuckling. "I'll climb into your crib and find out."
So he carefully manoeuvred himself into the other baby's crib, then quickly disappeared beneath the blanket. After a couple of minutes, he resurfaced with a big grin on his face. "You're a little girl and I'm a little boy," he said proudly. "You're ever so clever," cooed the baby girl, "But how can you tell?" "It's easy," replied the baby boy. "You've got pink booties and I've got blue ones." ~
