Editor's Message ~ Happy New Year from Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue!
|
 | Julie Gedro |
Hello, and Happy New Year to all of our readers! A remarkable thing about YTNR-we have folks who have been with us for years, and we have bonded through the love of the breed. Through emails, listservs, an annual meeting, and our Newsletter, lifelong friendships have been incubated and developed. My friendship with our President, Mary Elizabeth Dugmore, is going on 14 years. As anyone who spends time with me knows, I tend to keep friends for life. I also emphasize the importance of time and experience as non-negotiable ingredients in the development of relationships. Certainly, there might be such a phenomena as "love at first sight" but what I personally and individually trust is the ability of a relationship to withstand all of the seasons that a lifetime brings, including the storms. YTNR is built upon a solid foundation, which is why we are headed into our 16th year. This New Year feels particularly exciting because in addition to the tried and true relationships, we have also enjoyed the gifts of new friends to our community. YTNR welcomes all who love and care about Yorkshire Terriers. The bonus that comes along with the work, is the love and joy of the human friendships that develop and flourish.
From our house to yours, wishing you a Happy New Year, filled with hope, positive energy, enthusiasm, the boldness to dream, and the comfort and affection of friends far and wide.
Julie, Buzzy, Nick and Leaky Gedro

Yorkie Times Spotlight on Bill Wynne and Smoky
|
The latest. An unbelievable event for Smoky. The Governor of Queensland spoke and did the unveiling. The Mayor of Brisbane was there. The equivalent to our Surgeon General. There was release of pigeons. and poppies were placed at the memorial by all present. This is on the site of a '44 U.S. Military Hospital, where Smoky served as a therapy dog 20 years before it had a name. The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, put on a regal affair 12/12/12. As pointed out during the ceremony Smoky helped many with Post Traumatic Stress, called " Shell Shock" until relatively recently, Service dogs, horseback military, mounted police, pigeons and two donkeys.

You will find there are several errors in the video. One, Smoky did not ever fly with Gen. MacArthur. Smoky it was found recently was born in '43 "and bought at a veterinarian shop/hospital on the main street of Brisbane." That main street of Brisbane at that time was Queen Street according to the PR Person of the Hospital . This checked out as the former vet shop was found but no longer at the location. It was within 600 feet of General MacArthur's Headquarters '42-'44 on Edward Street which was around the corner from Queen Street near where it intersected with Edward street. It is possible that Mrs. MacArthur and little Arthur MacArthur saw Smoky in the window of the shop if they walked to the main street to go shopping. "She is top quality and too expensive for the average Aussie to buy" the vet told Mr. And Mrs. Heidenreich. Who spotted her playing in the storefront window and stopped in..( That quality checked out with Goldie Stone when she saw in 1946..) Another, I am 90 and not 94 years old, an improvement from the medal ceremony where I was 96. 12,000 miles seems to create not only differences in time but often stories. I find that other others complain their stories get all kind of twists and mysterious changes too, constantly. Bill

Two Generations of YTNR Goodwill Ambassadors
A Very Happy New Year to our wonderful friends/family of YTNR! So many things have happened this year, certainly too much to list here, but I thought you might like to know that Ruby, YTNR's tiniest Goodwill Ambassador, is spreading Joy and Smiles in many places! I've posted a few below. I don't know if any of you were there when Mary Elizabeth honored me by presenting me with Ruby (through the kind generosity of Patti Hood) at the YTNR Ball in Nashville, 3 yrs ago? That was a life changing experience for me. If you were there, you would remember this tiny, 1-lb BALL of FIRE, that you could barely hold in your hands, squirming and twisting and racing around the floor if she managed to break loose! She still has that high energy (Judy and I call her the "Sheriff", thinking she is in charge of all the doggies and kitties in the house), but she now puts it into her fun tricks, and while she can still be a rascal, she is so sweet and loving, and she LOVES to make people smile..
Thank you, Maryelizabeth, and all the board members and volunteers, for making me so proud to be part of such a wonderful group... I don't think I would be exaggerating if I said that about 95% of my friends are animal lovers, and about 90% of them are active volunteers for many worthy causes... Love you all, and I wish you a Happy, Fruitful and Loving 2013... :) Much Love and Many Woofs, Rick, Judy, Jilli Dog, Ruby Dog, Spidey Chi, Coco Pup, Delilah and Lacey |

YTNR's Nano has been renamed "Sophie". She has been adopted by a lovely couple Allison & Jonathan in GA. They wanted so much to adopt a rescue and found Nano on our web page and it was instant love. Thanks to them she is now in a wonderful home. Thank you for adopting a Yorkie from Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue and offering "Sophie" a loving and forever home.

Trivia told by supermodel Athena Maria
|
* January is known as National Soup month in America.
* The 1st Football Super Bowl Game was held at the LA Coliseum in January.
* Most people know the month of January was named after the Roman God Janus. Janus (Ianuarius) was the Roman God "of the doorway" or gatekeeper, many times represented as a 2 faced mask signifying beginnings and endings.
* Originally the Georgian Calendar had 10 months, but was expanded to include January and February sometime around 700BC by the Roman ruler Pompilius, who gave it 30 days. It is said Julius Caesar gave it 31 days.
* The garnet is the official birth gemstone of the month.

Neeko's Joke ;o)
|
~ Anxious to finally get the porch painted, the wife urged the husband to allow the man that knocked on their door looking for handiwork to do the job. The man happily agreed to paint it for $50. They were thrilled at their good luck of getting their wide porch painted for a measly $50. Minutes later there was a knock at the door. "All done" he said. "Already?" they both said at once. "Yeah, and by the way, it's a Lexus not a Porsche". ~
Love to all,
Neeko :o)
