October  2012
Dear Parents/Guardians,

b&w doublesabercat

This is the time of the year when we remind you of how very important your Tax Credit donations are to all of the Sabino Interscholastic programs.  You may donate up until the last day of December (for 2012) and those donations can be done online, or by mail directly to Sabino High School.  I thank you in advance for your generosity; it is no secret that without our Tax Credit gifts, your students would not have much of the necessary equipment, materials, and human resources (coaches/sponsors) that "drive" our phenomenal Sabercat Interscholastic programs.

Fall is one of my favorite times of year; our weather finally begins to cool off, we start to anticipate the holidays, and the first quarter is complete!  We recently celebrated Homecoming and many of our fall sports teams are headed into the playoffs.  With that I must extend my gratitude to all of the Sabino teachers for their hard work in the classroom, our Student Council (and sponsor), and all of our fine coaches (along with lots of moms and dads "working behind the scenes") to bring continued Academic and Interscholastic acclaim to our school.

As you may have read in my last month's article, we are (still) seeking host families for the Korean exchange students who will arrive in January.  Within a few weeks, the TKAP (Tucson Korea Ambassador Program) will begin to host informational meeting for both host families and those students who commit to serving as Ambassadors while our Korean students visit.  Please let me know ASAP (by calling 584-7704) if you and your family are willing to host a Korean student.  There is a weekly "stipend" of $100 for each Korean student hosted.

As always, I thank you for the wonderful students you send me, and I hope you know how much I value your support of our school.

Yours in Education,
sabinoS

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

October and November are months in which many colleges and universities have priority deadlines.  Was your students' application sent?  Students planning on attending an in-state university or an out-of-state school with early decision deadlines should apply now.  Early applications will result in greater opportunities for acceptance and scholarships.

PAYING FOR COLLEGE

Scholarship and Financial Aid Information can be obtained from Sabino's Counselor Home Page at http://edweb.tusd.k12.az.us/Sabino/counseling/  Seniors also should get in the habit of stopping by the Counseling Department to check the Scholarship File on a regular basis.  Scholarships are also posted weekly as they are received on the Bulletin Board on the tusdstats page beneath student assignment and test grades.

MeritAid.com is the first comprehensive database of merit scholarships from colleges - they have over 78,000 individual programs from 1,700 schools. It's a great tool for students to discover new colleges along with the merit scholarships they offer. As a service of Cappex, MeritAid.com protects student privacy by requiring that students authorize which colleges see their personal information.  To access MeritAid.com's services, students need to go to www.MeritAid.com and create a profile.  A student will then received a customized list of colleges, based on the information they entered in their profile.  This list includes the merit-based aid available at each school listed.

Cappex.com has added a scholarship match tool to their site. The direct link is http://www.cappex.com/scholarships/
