If you haven't updated your handbook in the last year, you are out of compliance!
Updated employee handbooks are so important.  So often they are updated very infrequently and worse yet left to sit on a shelf. Handbooks are the most important management tool available and the policies, practices highlighted must be adhered to by all supervisors and leaders.  I know that most people are not qualified nor do they desire to write one for themselves. There is a significant amount of time and specific expertise required to effectively and appropriately write a handbook. Too often the person given the task to update and write handbooks is truly not qualified to do so. Being the most important management tool for compliance and effective management of employees.  JBM has done this for you...
Compliant, best practices handbook...easy to edit and customize

The NLRB Section 7 has made some wording changes that you need to understand.  Handbooks are more and more fluid than ever before!

Thanks to Hodgson Russ Attorneys for the guidance!

Basically this regulation refers to the "right of employees to discuss wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment with co workers as well as non employees. "

Specifically wording in categories below in your handbook need careful review..(this is not all inclusive):
Confidentiality - you cannot prohibit employee discussion related to above including workplace complaints
Employee conduct (and social media) toward co workers and supervisors - employees  DO have the " right to criticize or protest their employer's labor policies or treatment of employees"; you CANNOT have policies that prohibit protected criticism.  Wording related to "respect" has to be carefully reviewed.
Other areas that need review...
Employees interaction with Third Parties
Rules restricting use of company logos, copyrights and trademarks
Rules restricting photography and recording
Rules restricting employees from leaving work
Conflict of Interest Rules
Use of email systems
Social Media policies

Each of the above categories comes with specific issues and wording that can be inappropriately expressed in your handbook now given the new laws.  If you need help through the process..contact JBM
