Curriculum Enhancement

All Curriculum Enhancement (CE) activities are funded by the Cherry Crest PTSA.  Without your support, these activities would not be possible.

Past Event:
On February 24th, 1st graders planted paper white flower bulbs and learned about different parts of the bulb. The bulbs are on display in the classrooms where students can observe their growth.

 Cherry Crest Read-a-thon
 Starts April 1st!

It's a Walk-a-Thon for your brain!
 
Cherry Crest's 2nd Annual Read-a-Thon starts April 1st!
 
Ready ... Set ... Read!!! Students will set a reading goal, gather sponsors to pledge money, and read from Friday, April 1st to Sunday, April 10th, turning in Reading Logs and money raised by Monday, April 18th.  The Read-a-Thon will be the last major Cherry Crest PTSA fundraiser of the 2015-2016 school year.  Please contact readathon@cherrycrest-ptsa.org if you'd like to help!

 Passport Club Check Point Day on Monday, March 28th!

Passport Club's next Immigration Check Point Day is quickly approaching and will be on Monday, March 28th.

Destinations can be found in the Passport Club Study Maps GuideFor March's check point, please refer to the map study guide for March.  The country highlighted this month is FinlandRemember, if your student missed any passport times, you can download the map and give your student the test at their level.  Have your child turn in their test at the next meeting and they can earn their stamp for that month.

Passport Club is a parent driven activity and thus we count on all of your support to enrich kids understanding of World Geography. We need volunteers and there are different levels of support which can be provided, from cutting stamps at home to pulling books for display in the library that are representative of this month's countries to be traveled. 
 
On Monday, March 28th, we need volunteers to test children at Check Points. If you would like to volunteer, please contact passportclub@cherrycrest-ptsa.org

Cherry Crest Movie Night is This Friday!
Movie Night is coming to Cherry Crest this Friday, March 18th from 6:30-8:30pm

The 5th graders in Mr. Regala's and Ms. Stover's classes voted on the movie selection and the winner is ... MINIONS!
 
Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase to support 5th grade activities. Bring a comfy blanket or pillow and enjoy the show!
  

Author/Illustrator Kazu Kabuishi Visits Cherry Crest!
Author/Illustrator Kazu Kabuishi will be coming to Cherry Crest on Monday, March 21st for an all day visit with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.  He will be hosting hour long presentations with each of these grade levels in the library on how he creates his graphic novels, artwork, and stories along with a 30 minute workshop for a select group of 20 students.

Congratulations Global Reading Challenge Winners!
Congratulations to the Word Snatchers for representing Cherry Crest at the all Bellevue Global Reading Challenge on March 9th at the Bellevue Regional Library.  They took 2nd place against Enatai, Puesta del Sol and Ardmore Elementary schools. Great job!

All students who participated in the GRC program at Cherry Crest will be partaking in a celebration later this month.  More details to come from Mrs. Lux

On-Site After School Activities
All on-site activities occur at Cherry Crest.  Some activities are sponsored and operated by the school or the PTSA, others are provided by outside non-profit and for-profit vendors.  For complete list of after school programs currently offered at Cherry Crest, visit our On-Site After School Programs on the PTSA Website.
2nd and 3rd Grade Drama Club at Cherry Crest
Who: 2nd and 3rd grade students 
  
Where: Ms. Ward's room, #114
  
When: Tuesdays from 2:30pm to 3:45pm, March 22, 29, (Spring Break April 5), April 12, 19, 26. Parents or caregivers must pick up students by 3:45pm.
  
What: Students will learn the art of speaking in front of an audience and work on improvisation, scene work, short skits, movement, creative interpretation, prop design, dialogue, sound effects, etc.

Why
: Drama Club can help build confidence, community, and creativity! Learning the art of drama can benefit kids, helping them learn kinesthetically while building their confidence and self-esteem.
  
Duration: Five weeks, every Tuesday beginning March 22 
  
Registration: Registration forms will be passed out at school to all 2nd and 3rd graders. Students or family members need to bring the completed form to the school front office by Thursday, March 17th. Space is limited and will be given on a first come, first served basis. The first 20 students to register will secure a spot in the club. Those 20 students will receive a paper confirmation to take home on Friday, March 18th with further details about starting the following Tuesday. Students who register must be willing to perform in front of their peers.

Submission Deadlines

The Cherry Crest Charger Chatter is emailed to families and staff on Tuesday mornings. The deadline for submissions to the Chatter is the preceding Wednesday at 7pm.

Submissions should be made via email as plain text. Flyers or attachments may be submitted electronically in PDF format, but will be included at the discretion of the editorial team. Send all submissions to the editor at editor@cherrycrest-ptsa.org.
