Adding to your collection of CDs or MP3s can be even more powerful than reading an excellent motivational book.  As a huge fan of Jim Rohn and Tony Robbins, I recently added this CD to my collection of motivational audio.  Since teaching is really leading (as is parenting) and since leaders need to be leading themselves first and foremost, Zig Ziglar's ideas and presentation are fuel for the heart and soul.  People frequently complain that effects of motivation do not last but Zig had a great response "Neither does bathing; that's why we recommend it daily".

Let's Rally Around Math in a Positive Way!

It made me cry when I saw the headline online, "Why Americans Stink at Math", and then again when I saw the print edition "Why Does Everyone Hate the New Math?" based on excerpts from Elizabeth Green's Building a Better Teacher to be published August 4th.
What if articles and books about Math education were inspiring with titles like
"Americans Can Improve Their Math Skills" or "Americans who Love Math and Classrooms that Promote Excellence".  While the Common Core standards are a challenge to implement, the intention is to create opportunity for all students.
Here is a link to my response on how Math can be improved through practice and better public relations.
Brain Teaser

What is the next number in this series?

1, 11, 21, 1211, 111221, 312211

Answer to July's Brain Teaser: the numbers are arranged alphabetically and 11 ("eleven") would go between 8 ("eight") and 5 ("five").
