| This month's recommended book "Take Time for Your Life" by life coach Cheryl Richardson advises focusing less on goals and more on self-care. There are two Math features: GED Math and a new Math blogosphere for the exchange and sharing of ideas about teaching and learning Math. |

Recommended Reading

I read this book back in the late 1990's and just picked it back up. Cheryl Richardson's advice is to figure out what is truly important (and to discard the things that are NOT!), making room for new possibilities and growth. She strongly recommends journaling to listen to your inner self and to create space for your biggest priorities. Her book includes provoking chapter titles like: Put Yourself at the Top of the List, What's Draining You, What's Fueling You? along with Build a Soulful Community, Honor Your Spiritual Well Being and Your New Life.

GED Math Practice
The GED (General Equivalency Diploma) has been an alternate route to a high school diploma for over 70 years. This January (2014), the new GED will debut and will be completely computerized. In late November, an online guide will be released for this new more rigorous exam. Second-Chance Diploma from American Radio Works profiles some GED test takers and highlights sample questions.

Exploring the Math Blogosphere (starts Oct 6)
Starting October 6th, Dan Meyer (dy/dan) and other passionate Math educators will be meeting online to exchange and share ideas. Some of the cool links I have found so far: Mathalicious, Pam Wilson's Blog as well as Classroom Footage compiled by Michael Pershan I LOVE observing student teachers as while I am mentoring I am also learning!
