Read about Their Experiences

Thirty Fourth Church youth and their six adult leaders have been doing mission work in Asheville, North Carolina, this week. They have been blogging online about their experiences and will continue to do so until they return tomorrow.

They'd love for you to follow them on their journey, so be sure to check out their blog and photos!

The Final Concert in Our Spring/Summer Organ Series

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 27, when an inspiring hymn festival will be played on the new Andrew Pipe Organ!

The festival, sponsored by the National Association of Lutheran Musicians, will be led by Michael Burkhardt, cantor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livonia, Michigan; artist-professor of organ at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan; and artistic director of the Detroit Handbell Ensemble and the Hearts, Hands, and Voices worship and fine-arts program for children.

Dr. Burkhardt has performed and led seminars at both national and regional events for the American Guild of Organists, the Hymn Society, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, and the American Choral Directors Association. Since 2003 he has made six performance-teaching tours to South Korea and Singapore.

He is known for leading inspiring and innovative hymn festivals, so the evening of July 27 promises to be a moving one!

More information about the Andrew Pipe Organ can be found on our website.

threeVolunteer with the Social Service Center

Register for the Orientation Session Today!

The Chicago Lights Elam Davies Social Service Center is looking for volunteers to assist guests in the Share Shop or the Consumer Choice Food Pantry, to interact--through Good Neighbors Street Outreach--with individuals experiencing homelessness, or to help with administrative needs.

To learn more about the Social Service Center and how you can help, please attend a one-hour orientation session on Thursday, July 21 at 3:00 p.m. in Room 4E. Opportunity to tour the Social Service Center will take place following orientation.

Advance registration for the orientation is required and can be done online here. For more information, contact Jill Keiser (312.981.3590).

fourJust What Your Salad Needs!
Farmstand Veggies and Salad Shares

Fresh, organic produce is offered for sale throughout the summer at the Farmstand at the Chicago Lights Urban Farm (444 W. Chicago Ave.). Stop by on Saturdays anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to pick out fresh veggies harvested directly from the Urban Farm. Produce typically available includes lettuce, mixed greens, flower bouquets, onions, peas, beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, a variety of herbs, and more.

For those who would like a regular supply of produce, check out the Urban Farm's Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, or "subscription farming." Members purchase subscriptions, or weekly "shares," of fresh produce from a local farmer. The Urban Farm CSA "Salad Shares" allow members to have direct access to high-quality, fresh, organic produce grown on-site. In return, those shares help support the Farm and its many community-oriented programs.

More information about CSA Salad Shares through the Urban Farm is available online here or by contacting Ben Jaffe (312.252.3597).

fiveWe're Looking for Officer Recommendations
Nominating Forms Now Available

Do you know someone with gifts for leadership and ministry? Consider recommending them for an officer position with Fourth Church or Chicago Lights!

Recommendations for the offices of Elder, Deacon, Trustee, and Chicago Lights Board can be made online. Paper forms are also available at the church in the pew racks and literature racks.

The Officer Nominating Committee would greatly appreciate your assistance in helping them gather names this summer so they can begin their review of recommendations this fall. So why not take a moment in the coming week to send your suggestions their way!

sixThank You to the Women's Choir!
We are grateful for the gifts of the members of the Women's Choir, who have enhanced the 9:30 and 11:00 worship services this summer with their musical leadership.

Beginning next Sunday, July 24, the Men's Choir will be singing in Sunday morning worship through September 4. The full Chancel and Morning Choirs will resume music leadership on September 11.

Anyone interested in joining a Fourth Church choir is encouraged to contact John Sherer (312.981.3592).
