Mission Trip Participants Leave This Weekend

Young adult mission trip participants traveling to Northern Ireland depart this coming weekend. These seven travelers--led by Hardy Kim and Layton Williams--will spend a week learning about the expressions of Christian witness in Northern Ireland and gaining resources for dealing with societal division and conflict.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as together they participate in the worldwide mission and ministry of the church of Jesus Christ.

threeYouth Setting Out for Asheville

A July 9-16 Mission Trip

Also this weekend, Fourth Church youth and their adult leaders will leave for Asheville, North Carolina, where they will spend a week doing mission work. To follow the youth on their journey and read about their experiences, visit their blog on the Fourth Church website.

Please keep these thirty youth and their six leaders in your thoughts and prayers during their travels and time of work and fellowship.

fourSchool Supplies Needed!
Donate or Help Receive, Sort, and Distribute

While it seems like the school year just ended, it's already time to prepare our Chicago Lights children and youth for classes this fall.

With some schools beginning in mid-August, we're preparing for our annual School Supply Drive, organized by Women at Fourth. Again this year we'll be collecting backpacks and school supplies for children connected with the Chicago Lights Urban Farm, Summer Day, and Tutoring programs.

You can help by signing up to fill a backpack for a child, donating school supplies for the Chicago Lights Tutoring program, or helping receive, sort, and distribute school supplies and backpacks. A list of needed backpack supplies is available here; a list of needed Chicago Lights Tutoring supplies is available here.

To volunteer with or learn more about the School Supply Drive, stop by Coffee Hour this Sunday morning or contact Anne Ellis at 312.573.3369.

fiveSave the Date for a Hymn Festival
Join us in the Sanctuary later this month for an inspiring hymn festival played on the new Andrew Pipe Organ!

The festival, sponsored by the National Association of Lutheran Musicians, will be led by Michael Burkhardt, cantor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livonia, Michigan; artist-professor of organ at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan; and artistic director of the Detroit Handbell Ensemble and the Hearts, Hands, and Voices worship and fine-arts program for children.

Dr. Burkhardt has performed and led seminars at both national and regional events for the American Guild of Organists, the Hymn Society, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, and the American Choral Directors Association. Since 2003 he has made six performance-teaching tours to South Korea and Singapore.
