An Evening of Prayer, Singing, and Silent Reflection

Join us this Friday for our monthly service in the style of Taizé at 7:30 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel.

The Taizé service provides an opportunity to gather in a contemplative, prayerful setting at the end of a busy week. Candles; easy-to-learn songs from various countries, traditions, and languages; and a period of silence all contribute to a time to reflect and to open oneself to God.

The service will be preceded by opportunity to walk the labyrinth in Anderson Hall between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m.

threeSunday Is Pentecost
Celebrate the Birth of the Church

This Sunday is Pentecost, which celebrates the birth of the church and the giving of the Holy Spirit to the disciples of Jesus. Red, which is the liturgical color for the day, symbolizes the pentecostal fire of the Holy Spirit, as described in Acts 2. In the Jewish tradition, Pentecost (for "fifty" days after Passover) is a harvest festival of first fruits that also celebrates the giving of the Torah, or Hebrew law.

The banners that will be hanging in the Sanctuary that day present Old Testament and New Testament Pentecost themes, including creation, Hebrew law, harvest, Passover, and tongues of fire.

fourHelp Make 27,500 Meals Possible!
Support Fourth Church Meals Ministry

Enjoy the Chicago outdoors and help neighbors in need at the same time!

The Greater Chicago Food Depository Hunger Walk will take place on Saturday, June 20, and Fourth Church Meals Ministry is fielding a walking team. We need walkers to join us as well as individuals to support those walking: all points earned and donations received through the team will help provide much-needed food for the feeding programs of Fourth Church Meals Ministry, which this year will serve more than 27,500 meals to hungry neighbors.

To register to walk with the Fourth Church Meals Ministry team, click here and follow the step-by-step instructions on the registration process.

To make a donation toward food credits for Sunday and Monday Night Suppers and weekday bag lunches, visit our team page online

More information is also available by contacting Norman Clearfield, Meals Ministry Coordinator, at 312.981.3599.

The Urban Farm CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) "Salad Shares" give you direct access to high-quality, fresh, organic produce grown onsite at the Chicago Lights Urban Farm. In return, those shares help support the Farm and its many community-oriented programs.

More information about the Salad Shares, which will be available starting Saturday, June 6, is online here or by contacting Ben Jaffe (312.252.3597).

All members are encouraged to attend a congregational meeting that has been called by the Session of Fourth Church for Sunday, June 7 in the Sanctuary at 12:15 p.m.

At the meeting, the congregation will act to dissolve the pastoral relationship between John and Fourth Church so that he might assume his new position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Evangelism at Union Presbyterian Seminary.

June 7 will also be John's last Sunday with us, and we will have opportunity that day--in a reception following the meeting--to thank John and Anna for their ministry among us and to wish them well as they move to Richmond, Virginia.
