This Saturday: World Labyrinth Day

Tomorrow is World Labyrinth Day--join in solidarity with those around the globe also walking labyrinths on Saturday, May 3 by participating in a special guided walk in Buchanan Chapel between 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m.

A labyrinth is a walking tool for prayer and meditation for those seeking God. Rediscovered in recent years as a fruitful spiritual practice, it is an archetypal sacred pattern for walking a path of pilgrimage and is found in many religious traditions in various forms around the world.

Walking the labyrinth at Fourth Church takes approximately twenty minutes.

Handcrafted Fair Trade Gifts This Sunday

This Sunday is Fair Trade Sunday, when there will be opportunity during morning Coffee Hour to learn from Partners for Just Trade about the impact of fair trade. Gifts handcrafted by fair-trade artisans from Peru, Haiti, Cambodia, and Egypt will also be available for your shopping pleasure.

Partners for Just Trade (PJT) is a nonprofit, fair-trade organization working with impoverished artisans to help them earn a fair income to improve their lives and the lives of their families. PJT blossomed from the Presbyterian Hunger Program's Joining Hands partnership in Peru. Fair trade not only pays the artisan a fair price for their products but also encourages gender equality, provides healthy and safe work conditions, and builds long-term relationships with the producers.

Time:

Sunday, May 4, following morning worship services

Place:

     Coffee Hour in Anderson Hall

Installation and Ordination This Sunday

New officers, elected by the congregation during the Annual Meeting in February, will be ordained and installed this Sunday during 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship.

Among them will be Elders, who will serve on Session, the church's governing body, which meets monthly to conduct the business of the church; Trustees, who are elected by the congregation to manage Fourth Church's financial and physical resources; and Deacons, who are often described as "the heart of the church," those involved in the care of the congregation and various outreach ministries.

Join us this Sunday in congratulating them--and in also thanking for their commitment to this church those officers who are concluding their term of service this spring. They have given much of their time and talent to this congregation over the past three years and we are deeply grateful!

fiveBibles for Kindergartners

Kindergartners will receive Bibles during this Sunday morning's Children Chapel. This is just one of the ways we, as a congregation, live out our baptismal pledge to support the children and youth of the church. We hope you'll keep these children in your thoughts and prayers as we celebrate the faith of our young people!

May 18: A Celebration of 100 Years

A day like Sunday, May 18 only comes once every 100 years! Come be part of a truly historic Fourth Church moment that day as we celebrate the centennial of the Sanctuary. We will gather after the 11:00 a.m. service for an anniversary reception--which will include food from Ditka's--to give thanks for our first century on Michigan Avenue.

As part of that celebration we will also launch with great enthusiasm our next century, welcoming Shannon Kershner for her first Sunday preaching as our new Pastor. She will preach at all four services that day.

We hope you'll join us for what promises to be an exciting and memorable day in the history of Fourth Church!
