oneA Letter from Calum

In a letter mailed to the congregation this past Wednesday, Calum MacLeod shared that he will be leaving Fourth Church after Sunday, February 23 so that he might follow the call to the next phase in his ministry. You can read that letter online, as well as an accompanying letter from Sam Evans, Clerk of Session.

Calum's last Sunday with us will be Sunday, February 23, when he will preach at the 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 a.m. services. Following the 11:00 service, all are invited to a reception for Calum and Missy in Anderson Hall and the Commons.

Between now and February 20, we invite you to contribute notes and letters for Calum and Missy, thanking them for their ministry among us and wishing them well in the next phase of their ministry. Those reflections can be mailed to the church (Attn. Barbara Cleveland, 126 E. Chestnut St., Chicago, IL 60611.2014) or dropped off at the church reception desk, or they can be emailed to memorybox@fourthchurch.org. These private expressions of gratitude, shared memories, and well wishes will be collected and presented to Calum and Missy on Sunday, February 23 as a gift from the congregation.

Please join us in sharing with Calum and Missy how deeply grateful we are for all that their presence among us has meant!

threeTaizé and Labyrinth
A Time for Meditation and Reflection

A service in the style of Taizé, which incorporates prayer, singing, and silent reflection, will take place tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel.

The Taizé service provides an opportunity to gather in a contemplative, prayerful setting at the end of a busy week. Candles; easy-to-learn songs from various countries, traditions, and languages; and a period of silence all contribute to a time to reflect and to open oneself to God.

The service will be preceded by opportunity to walk the labyrinth in Anderson Hall between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. This meditative walk takes approximately twenty minutes.

Time: Friday, January 24

Place: Labyrinth Walk, between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Hall

Taizé Service, 7:30 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel

The Annual Meeting of the Congregation will be held on Sunday, February 9 following the 11:00 a.m. service. As part of the meeting, the congregation will elect new officers, and, as noted in the letter mailed to
the congregation this week (see above), the congregation will act--at the request of Calum MacLeod--to dissolve the pastoral relationship with Calum, with his last Sunday at Fourth Church being February 23.

All members are encouraged to attend the annual meeting; child care will be provided.

After the meeting, all are invited to an intergenerational, Mediterranean-themed congregational luncheon. Tickets for this meal are available during Coffee Hour this Sunday and at the reception desk during the week.
