festivalSunday's Festival of Lessons and Music

Join Fourth Church this Sunday for a special tradition, the Festival of Advent Lessons and Music, at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

Calum MacLeod and members of Fourth Church will read the scripture lessons of Advent, and Fourth Church's Children's, Youth, Chancel, and Morning Choirs will sing anthems of the season. The Handbell Choir will also provide music leadership.

Together we will also sing Advent hymns and anticipate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Another annual favorite--the holiday reception hosted by Women@Fourth Connect that features homemade cookies and hot cocoa--will follow the service.

Last Day for Christmas Flower Contributions

Today is the deadline for Christmas flower contributions to decorate the Gratz Center, Sanctuary, and Parish House for Christmas.

You can help make this possible while at the same time memorializing or honoring loved ones by contributing to the purchase of Christmas flowers and garlands. Names of those remembered through the donation will be printed in the Christmas worship bulletin.

Contributions can be made online.

Gifts can also be made by completing the Christmas flowers form, which is available on the website and in the literature racks or by contacting Wydetta Carter.

Blue Christmas Service

Feelings of grief, loss, loneliness, sadness, and anxiety can become more pronounced during the holidays. The "Blue Christmas" service on Thursday, December 20 provides a Christmas worship opportunity for those who may find it difficult to share in the traditional celebrations on December 24 and 25. This service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel.

Those dealing with the emotional challenges of the season are also invited to contact the Counseling Center at Fourth Church at 312.787.8425.

La Posada Family Night

Fourth Church families are invited to celebrate Christmas with La Posada, a tradition from Latin America, at Family Night next Friday, December 21. La Posada is a "journey" children will take throughout the church, knocking on doors and looking for lodging. Just like the holy family, the children will be told there is no room until they come to the last door, through which is the entrance to the Christmas party.

All children are invited to go on a "journey" between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. in Anderson Hall, and a piñata and carol sing will follow dinner.

Friends and family members are also welcome. RSVP to Daniel Holladay.

   5:30-8:30 p.m. in Anderson Hall

Still Shopping for Christmas Presents?

Is Christmas shopping still on your to-do list? Are there some people for whom you still aren't sure what to get?

Consider honoring or remembering those on your list with "Light Up a Life" gifts--which also help neighbors whose needs are great this holiday season. Gifts support the programs of Fourth Church and Chicago Lights and can be made online at or by using the brochures mailed to member homes and available in the literature racks.

Help "light up a life" this Christmas with gifts that make a difference in the lives of those we serve!
