Fair Trade Bazaar Weekend! For those who still might have Christmas shopping to do, stop by the Fair Trade Gift Bazaar this Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Anderson Hall and the Gignilliat Commons. Find the perfect gifts for people on your list--while also helping artisans around the world earn a living wage. This year's Fair Trade Gift Bazaar will again feature handcrafted merchandise, ranging from folk art to ceramics, textiles, baskets, and jewelry as well as gourmet coffee, chocolate, and mission project gifts. Participating vendors include Africa Circle of Hope, Five Accessories, Five Loaves Two Fishes, Partners for Just Trade, and Ten Thousand Villages. Groups in more than thirty countries will benefit from the proceeds of this bazaar, making it possible for them to earn a fair wage for their labors. The sales at last year's bazaar supported more than forty families with a year's income, allowing them to in turn provide food, housing, education, and health care for their families. New this year, the bazaar will also include Alternative Gifts International, which provides many global mission projects to which you can choose to make a donation as a gift for another. Holiday cards are available for donors and include a description of the project. Come shop for a difference!  An Open House on Saturday
Invite friends or neighbors to learn about Fourth Church programs during the Advent season and throughout the year at an open house this Saturday. Hosted by Discover Fourth, the open house will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with representatives from Fourth Church available in the Narthex and Sanctuary to provide information and answer questions about opportunities at the church during this busy time of the year!

Advent Wreath Workshop for Families
Children and their families are invited to stop by Parish House Dining Room this Sunday and use their artistic talents to create Advent wreaths for their observance of this first season of the church year.
The Advent Wreath Workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Families may drop in any time during that period to make a wreath to take home. All materials and instructions will be provided at this free workshop.

 Tom Long Preaching Sunday Join us for worship this Sunday as Thomas Long, a professor at Candler School of Theology at Emory University, preaches at the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. services. Dr. Long is the Bandy Professor of Preaching at Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, and the author or editor of fourteen books on preaching and worship. He began his career as a preacher at McElroy Presbyterian Church near Atlanta and since that time has taught at a number of seminaries, including Princeton, Columbia, and Candler. In 1996, Baylor University named him one of the twelve most-effective preachers in the English-speaking world, along with James Forbes, Barbara Brown Taylor, Fred Craddock, Billy Graham, and William Willimon. We are delighted to welcome Tom Long to the Fourth Church pulpit this Sunday--and again next Sunday, December 9! back to top

The Young Adults Gathering series "All about Advent" will be held during the next three Sundays at 12:30 p.m. Conversation will include questions about Advent and Christmas traditions and how the Western cultural background and local North American customs have shaped our views of the season.

"Christmas and Consumerism": Advice for Parents
How do we prepare children to celebrate Advent in a healthy and meaningful way? "Christmas and Consumerism," a discussion for parents, will be held next Sunday, December 9 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 5A of the Gratz Center and will offer a time to explore this question, in addition to how parents can overcome feelings of stress and exhaustion during the busy holiday season and create, amid the hype and materialism, a memorable and meaningful Christmas for their children.
Susan Schemper, a parent coach and spiritual director from the Lorene Replogle Counseling Center, will lead this event on de-stressing this Advent.

Gratz Center Ribbon Project
Help create the ribbon to be cut at the Community Grand Opening of the Gratz Center, to be held Saturday, January 12, when we celebrate with our neighbors this new building. Individuals are invited to decorate muslin panels--with signatures, drawings, embroidery, or other embellishments--that will be joined to create the ribbon for the celebration.
Ribbon pieces to decorate are available at Coffee Hour this Sunday in Borwell Dining Room following morning worship services. Decorated panels are to be returned by Sunday, December 16. For information, contact Rob Koon.

Celebrate the season with the Center for Life and Learning at their annual Holiday Luncheon on Thursday, December 20 at 11:30 a.m. in Borwell Dining Room. Adults sixty and more are invited to enjoy delightful conversation, scrumptious food, Christmas carols, and live entertainment, featuring CLL member David Aaron Harbin.  Christmas Concerts at Fourth Church Tonight the St. Charles Singers will perform their "Candlelight Carols" concert in the Sanctuary at 7:30 p.m., as we kick off a series of Christmas concerts at Fourth Church. Tickets will be available at the door. Then next week, the all-male choral ensemble Chanticleer will perform two concerts at Fourth Church next week, on Tuesday, December 4 and Wednesday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. Former Morning Choir member Michael Bresnahan is a new member of Chanticleer, and we look forward to welcoming him back to Fourth Church for this concert series. Tickets for this seasonal favorite are available through the concert cosponsor, the Symphony Center Presents. Chicago a cappella will offer a program of Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces, traditional Mexican Christmas songs, and new choral compositions at their concert "Navidad en México" on Friday, December 7 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and online. The holiday concert "'Tis the Season," featuring the vocal ensemble Lakeside Singers, will be held on Friday, December 14 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available online.
