Quotes We Like
"I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody's ever made before. Don't freeze, don't stop, don't worry that it isn't good enough, or it isn't perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever."
~ Neil Gaiman

"One resolution I have made, and try always to keep, is this: To rise above the little things."
~ John Burroughs
"We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential." ~ Ellen Goodman

2013 roared in, and in spite of my best intentions, I'm already behind!
There is much upcoming to share. Our New To Showing Meeting is set for Sunday, January 13. And following that at 2:30 is our annual Show Clothing Consignment Sale. Plus our seamstress Jessie will be at CLS taking measurements and orders for New Academy Clothing -- and on hand to measure for alterations for those wonderful consignment pieces!
Dale Becker from Becker Brothers show clothiers will be here the following weekend on January 19. And the following weekend is the annual Saddle Horse Association of the Carolinas annual banquet and awards convention.
Whew! Information on all of this, and much more, is below.
I'll take just a moment to thank those of you who contributed to my surprise Christmas present, the incredible video linked below. I've cried and laughed and cried some more. I had no idea about it until it arrived in my inbox one day from Sarah Holmes at Apex Video Produtions, better known in our world as Alanah and MaKalyn's mom. The video is, without a doubt, my favorite Christmas present EVER! Due to a technical problem, Sarah said, some of the recordings couldn't be used. Even though I hate that some of the messages were lost, I just don't know how it could have been any more perfect. I will cherish this for a lifetime. Thank you. And I hope that each member of this barn family knows how humbled I am to be included in your world. You all are why I'm looking forward to 2013. I am blessed beyond compare. Happy 2013!

We're pleased to welcome
Legacy Saddlebreds at CLS!
As many folks know, due to Cash's illness, and the challenges his illness has brought, I made the difficult decision at the end of last season to close the Cash Lovell Stables Saddlebred training barn.
I remember vividly sitting at Sondra's desk, and through a gush of tears, telling the CLS instructors that I was closing the show horse barn. I apologized to them for letting them down. They would accept no apologies. I could sense then that my world was changing, but not in the way I had planned.
CLS Instructor Jamie Jankowicz grew up training show horses in Kentucky. She and her father built their training business together. After he passed away, and the family farm was sold, Jamie moved her family to NC to work at CLS. I've often heard Jamie speak of the legacy her father left her -- a love of Saddlebreds and an appreciation of how these wonderful creatures bond families.
LIkewise, I've heard longtime CLS instructor Jeanine Lovell, who is my sister-in-law, talk admiringly about the Lovell family's four-generation legacy in Saddlebred horses.
In the weeks that followed my announcement, Legacy Saddlebreds at CLS was born. As Jamie told me when they decided on a name, "Training horses and producing show riders is all I've ever wanted to do. It's what I did with my Dad. I feel whole again."
We all wish Jamie and Jeanine the very best. I have never met two more talented, passionate, decent, determined horsewomen. And I am honored to provide them a barn from which to build their dreams.
We also wish Max Ciampoli, who was the trainer at the CLS Show Barn before its closing, the very best. Max has begun his own training barn in Belews Creek, NC., where we hope he and Tina will find tremendous success.
Looking back, Cash's disease has sent ripple effects through my world - and through the lives of many others - for a long, long time. His dementia wreaked havoc on my family long before it was diagnosed.
I feel so blessed to have endured, and to begin to see good come from the bad. I'm looking forward to 2013, and what I hope is a season of acceptance, healing and joy.
