The Week of October 19, 2014
~This Week's Message~
I've Been Really Hurt!  Now What?
-2 Corinthians 5:17-

Being wronged needs to be viewed as an opportunity, not a curse. There are lessons to be learned and ministry opportunities that result.  We can therefore learn so much about ourselves, as well as being an incredible blessing to others.

~Coffee Break~

Coffee Break, a non-denominational, inductive Bible study meets Wednesday at 9:30 am. This year we have a Young Mother's Bible Study Group and babysitting is provided. For more information, please contact Arlene Emde or Starr Hoekstra. All are welcome.

~Sunday School News~

Sunday School is held during the worship service for Kindergarten through 5th grade. The children are excused from worship after the time of Praise and Worship, and led through an excellent curriculum.  We believe this is an exciting time for our children as they gather with other children their age. If you have any questions, please contact Judy Bury or Pastor Howard.

~Adult Sunday School~

We are studying Ray Vander Laan's video series, "Early Church." Ray is very gifted in searching out the historical and archeological roots of the Bible.  This study looks at the Early Church and some of the dynamics and challenges the first Christians faced in a world dominated by the Roman Empire.  The class meets in the Children's Worship Center from 10:45-11:30 am. Grab a cup of coffee and join us this Sunday.

~Prayer Group~

This group is an extension of the Prayer Concerns posted in the weekly bulletin, where we pray for the needs of the church and community as they are lifted up in prayer. We will meet again on Sunday, October 19 at 9:00 am just before Sunday service in the classroom near the front entrance of church. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

~Evening Bible Study News~

The Men's and Women's Evening Bible Study groups will next meet on October 28.  The women will be studying a book entitled, "Celebrate - Discovering Joy In Life's Ordinary Moments." The groups meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the following locations: Men-Fellowship Hall; Women-Church Office.  All are welcome.

~Church Office &
Creative Manager~

The Downers Grove Community Church will be searching for this part time position in the very near future.  If you are interested, or know someone who is interested, please contact Pastor Howard for a job description.

~Thanksgiving Service
And Sharing~

Yes, there's a "nip" in the air, which means "Fall is here!" And with Fall, comes the wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. We will be gathering on Wednesday, November 26 at 7:00 pm for our annual Thanksgiving Service. Would you be willing to share a short testimony of thanksgiving? If so, please let Pastor Howard know.

~Youth Group Annual Food Drive~

On November 6, the youth will have a food drive and will go to homes in the community to distribute a letter and paper bags to be filled with food. They will return to these homes to pick up the bags of food on November 16.

~Chili Cook-Off & Pie Auction~

Enter your best pot of chili and judges will vote for the best recipe to win! The cook-off will take place on Saturday, November 1, 6:00 pm and is open for anyone to come and taste. This will be followed by a pie auction.  These events are always lots of fun.  Proceeds will benefit the Deacons Fund.

~Taffy Apple Sale~

There will be a Taffy Apple sale next Sunday, October 26 after Worship service.  For anyone interested, pre-orders will be taken today by Jim Even.

~Angel Tree~

DGCC will be partnering with Angel Tree prison ministry to adopt a child whose parent is incarcerated and present that child with a Christmas gift.  Jim Even will address the congregation about the ministry on November 30 and names of the children will be available on that day and the following Sunday which will be December 7. Gifts for those children will be due on Sunday December 21.
