The Week of August 24, 2014
This Week's Message
"A Heart Poured Out in Prayer"  Daniel 9:1-19

Daniel realizes in these verse that the time of exile, prophesied by Jeremiah, is about to be completed, and so, he goes to God in prayer, asking that God fulfill His promise to Israel. We are going to see Daniel, the man of prayer in these verses, and look at some of the great truths about prayer as revealed through Daniel's prayer - true prayers is based on the fact that God is a God who speaks; true prayer always seeks to give glory to God; true prayer appeals to the mercy of God; true prayer always expresses the needs of the people of God.  We will conclude the message by focusing on the greatness of God who always keeps His promises.

Dear Pastor Howard and Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Mark and I wanted to thank you for the fantastic farewell party! Special thanks to all those who planned, prepared and cleaned! Since our first visit to DGCC in the spring of 2007, our family has felt welcomed, loved and spiritually uplifted. In times of joy, you rejoiced with us; in times of sadness you cried with us. In all times, you have been there to pray, laugh and worship our faithful Lord. We thank God for the gift of your friendship. We pray that God continues to bless DGCC.

Blessings,

Mark and Shelley

Coffee Break

Begins September 3 at 9:30 am

Coffee Break, a non-denominational, inductive Bible study begins again on Wednesday, September 3 at 9:30 am.
All are welcome.  This year we will have a Young Mother's Bible Study Group and babysitting will be provided.  For more information, please contact Arlene Emde or Starr Hoekstra.

Sunday School News
beginning September 7

Something new and exciting is coming for Sunday School this fall: Sunday School will be held during the worship service for Kindergarten through 5th grade, beginning September 7.  The children will be excused from worship after the time of Praise and Worship, and be led through an excellent curriculum. Junior and Senior High and Adult Sunday School will be held after the worship service. We believe this will be an exciting time for our children as they gather with other children their age. If you have any questions, please contact Judy Bury or Pastor Howard.

Adult Sunday School
beginning September 7

We will be studying Ray Vander Laan's video series, "Early Church." Ray is very gifted in searching out the historical and archaeological roots of the Bible.  This study will look at the Early Church and some of the dynamics and challenges the first Christians faced in a world dominated by the Roman Empire.  The class will meet in the Children's Worship Center from 10:45 am until 11:30 am.  Grab a cup of coffee and join us September 7.

God's Scandalous Grace
A Study of the Book of Jonah

Pastor Howard will begin a 5-week study on the Book of Jonah beginning September 7.  You are invited to participate in a small group Bible Study and discussion for those 5 weeks, based on those messages.  The groups will meet in various homes on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.  You can select an evening that works best for you.  Joining together with others for study, prayer and encouragement is a tremendous blessing.  We hope you will seriously consider this great opportunity.  There will be sign up sheets in your bulletins.

Evening Bible Study News
Begins September 9 at 6 pm

The Evening Bible Study groups begin September 9. The Women's Evening Bible Study will meet at Steven's Restaurant in Downers Grove at 6 pm.  The Men's Evening Bible Study will meet at the church for a cookout, also at 6 pm. For the first 5 weeks, the men will be studying the book entitled "Always True" by James Macdonald.  There is a sign up sheet, this week, in the church for those men who are interested so that the correct amount of books may be ordered. The 'regular' Evening Bible Study groups will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7 pm at the following   locations: Men: Fellowship Hall; Women: Church Office.  All are welcome.
