Greetings!
As we celebrate some stunning victories from the June primary (80% of our endorsements won at the polls!) and congratulate Joni Eisen on nearly 10 years of fearless leadership, PHDC will skip our regular July meeting and instead do our patriotic duty on the 4th: * Work to increase the number of registered voters in the City; * Have a picnic; * Watch a play!
Also, a small preview of coming attractions for a very very busy endorsement season!
Tony Kelly, President
Potrero Hill Democratic Club

Next meeting: Field trip! | |
Register voters in Dolores Park before the Mime Troupe's opening, then picnic and enjoy the show
Spend July 4th, Independence Day, being super-patriotic: Register voters! (Note that we are NOT meeting on our normal first Tuesday of the month, which would be July 5th. July 4th is Monday.)
Then stick around Dolores Park to picnic, while taking in the world-changing, Tony Award-winning SF Mime Troupe's opening of its 57th season: the premiere of Schooled. ("With privatization on the line, and a Wall Street heavy hitter lined up to fold the entire district into his conglomerate, suddenly the next School Board election is more about a hidden agenda than the open curriculum. And when did the hall monitors start wearing brown shirts and arm bands?") PHDC members will also have petitions for the SF Arts and Families Funding Ordinance, restoring allocations from the Hotel Tax to local artists and arts organizations and ending family homelessness, coming to November's ballot! Please reply to this email to volunteer for registration, just to join us for a picnic, or both.
WHEN: Monday (NOT Tuesday!), July 4, 2016 at noon (show begins at 2)
WHERE: Dolores Park, meet near 19th St, exact location TBD

June 7th = Victory Night
| | Multiple celebrations at Il Pirata
There were food, drink, and early (happy) election returns at Il Pirata on Election Night, as president-for-almost-a-decade Joni Eisen stepped down - not actually going anywhere except into her studio, garden, and grandkids' lives. (Joni remains on the PHDC board, and you'll see her at meetings and at Dolores Park on Monday!)

Coming soon - Endorsemania 2016
| | A crowded ballot, debates, and the PHDC Auction too
Brace yourself - November 2016 may well be the last City election for 18 months! So, there may be as many as two dozen local ballot measures on this November's ballot, another dozen state measures, and seven contested elections including two different BART seats (one BART district covers Dogpatch, another one Potrero Hill - Highway 280 and 7th Street make up the border). As always, PHDC has you covered. We won't have a debate on the Presidential race (we're a Democratic club, so We're With Her - and really, is this even a question by now?), but for everything else we will be your living Ballotpedia, with (brief) pros and cons for every issue and forums with every candidate or their representatives. That means that our August meeting, and two meetings in September, will be all endorsements all the time. We also have a bit of Club business with our own election. With Tony Kelly's ascension to the Club presidency, we have a vacant First Vice President slot. PHDC Second VP Robert Boileau is nominated to move over to that slot, and member Kelly Dennehy is nominated for Robert's current position as Second VP. Nominations are still open (just respond to this email with nominations), and will be until the August meeting, where we will have a brief election to fill the posts. And, the Auction. The PHDC doorhanger has become a trusted neighborhood guide to Election Day every fall; and the PHDC Party and Shop Local Silent Auction is the way we support the Club and the doorhanger! Stay tuned for the date and time for food, drink, jazz, community, and great deals to support neighborhood democracy.
